Red Roof Inn is running a promotion this summer offering a free night once you’ve stayed three times.

Quick Thoughts

OK, before you all jump on me for posting a deal about Red Roof Inn, I know their properties aren’t aspirational. However, they can be a good option if you need somewhere to stay for one night on a road trip, especially if you’re traveling with dogs. That’s because all Red Roof Inn properties are pet-friendly and don’t charge a pet fee.

We stayed three nights at the Red Roof Inn on Hilton Head Island in February and were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel wasn’t at all dodgy. It was great value for $65 per night, especially seeing as there was no pet fee added.

With that out the way, here’s how the deal works. You stay three times and you earn a free night, so it’s best maximized by three separate stays of one night.

The promo terms state that you earn 7,000 bonus points which is the same as a free night. That’s because Red Roof Inn’s loyalty scheme – RediCard – works in a similar way to Wyndham Rewards in that there’s only one price for a reward night at any of their properties, rather than having separate categories. Wyndham’s is 15,000 points, Red Roof Inn’s is 7,000 points.

The most notable difference between Wyndham Rewards and Redicard is that Wyndham at least has some aspirational redemption opportunities at times. That means that with this Red Roof Inn summer promo, the maximum value you’ll get out of the 7,000 bonus points is likely to be ~$100 given the generally low cost of their properties.

Having said that, it might be possible to get more value out of those points. Red Roof Inn has recently launched The Red Collection, which they describe as:

a portfolio of upscale economy to midscale unique hotels that are hyper-local, drawing inspiration from the local vibe and culture of the city centers in which they are located.

The first property in The Red Collection is The St. Clair Hotel, a block away from the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Room rates in October are $320+ which seems excessive given how poor the reviews are on TripAdvisor. However, future properties in The Red Collection could prove to be a good use of points.

The 7,000 points appear to be in addition to the 10 points per dollar you usually earn. That means you’ll likely have at least a couple of thousand additional points after the three stays.

If you don’t want to use the points for a free night, you can redeem your points for gift cards.

Unsurprisingly, that doesn’t provide good value seeing as you only get a $25 gift card for 6,500 points. Points expire if you have 14 months of inactivity, so there’s no need to make any immediate choices when it comes to using the bonus points earned from this promotion.
