Quick Thoughts
This award sale is a great way to get to experience the world’s longest flight in something better than Economy class. It’s also nice that you have the option of booking either one way or round trip and you can originate in either the US or Singapore.
There appears to be good availability on the Newark to Singapore route. For example, here are round trip flights from October 19-26. Note that although it lists the miles required as 140,000, once you’ve selected your flights it displays the discounted amount in the top-right corner: 80,000 miles.
Even though this award sale will be going on for another couple of weeks, it’d be best to book sooner rather than later as availability will likely disappear quickly. I’m already having a hard time finding Business Class availability on the Los Angeles – Singapore route.
In addition to these routes to and from the US, Singapore Airlines is offering discounted award flights between Singapore and other Asian cities in both Economy and Business Class. Scroll down the Spontaneous Escapes landing page for more details on all those routes.
You can transfer points from all the transferable currencies – Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou and Marriott Rewards – to Singapore Airlines’ Krisflyer program, making it easier to transfer across enough points.
When trying to search for these awards using Chrome, the page kept timing out. It worked fine using Edge though, so Microsoft’s browser finally has a purpose in life.
