Hyatt is out with a new promotion in partnership with MGM properties in Las Vegas: Get double World of Hyatt points on stays from now until December 29, 2018. That can be an especially good deal when stacked with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits and/or if you have an expensive trip to Vegas lined up. Since you can charge things like restaurants at another casino to your room folio at the place you’re staying, you can rack up a bunch of points even when you’re casino-hopping.

Delano Las Vegas Fine Hotels & Resorts
Delano is my go-to property in Vegas thanks to it being all-suites, having dirt-cheap rates through Amex FHR, and giving you access to The Beach at Mandalay Bay (though that won’t be a factor at this time of year).

Quick Thoughts

As noted above, one of the things I love about staying at MGM properties is the ability to charge things to your folio across resorts. For example, I’ve stayed at Luxor and charged dinner at Bellagio to my room at Luxor, thereby earning Hyatt points on those purchases. That can work out well if you’re making a big weekend out of it and casino-hopping for different meals/shows/etc. If you’re going for something like a bachelor/bachelorette party and you can get the room in your name, all the better.

I’ve been getting MGM email offers good for free nights (up to 4 free nights at some properties), but if I’m going to pay for a room I usually prefer to book through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts. If you have an Amex Platinum / Business Platinum card, it’s hard to beat the value of the benefits. Most properties offer a $100 resort credit (good at select restaurants – terms vary by hotel) and you get daily breakfast for 2, guaranteed 4pm late checkout, noon check in (based on availability), and a room upgrade (based on availability). If you’re willing to switch casinos, the guaranteed 4pm late check out and early check in based on availability can make it pretty easy to seamlessly leave one hotel and check in at the next. Rates at Delano bottom out around $66 a night at times (plus resort fee), which is a great deal with the $100 credit and breakfast for two (last I was there this was a $60 credit good at either the restaurant downstairs or room service). Right now, the lowest rates I see on a cursory search are $90 on some dates in November and December.

While I haven’t gotten a meaningful room upgrade at Delano (not that I need one since it’s all-suites), I did get a nice upgrade to a large suite at Bellagio the last time I booked an FHR room there.

Note that the terms of the deal state that eligible stays are a stay where payment is made directly to the resorts or one booked through Hyatt. In all of my experiences, I earned Hyatt points and stay credit when booking MGM hotels through Fine Hotels & Resorts. You should also be able to earn Hyatt points if booking through the Citi Prestige Concierge (i.e. over the phone or via email, not online), but you generally do not earn points when booking through other third party sites.

Double points won’t be enough for me to plan a trip to Vegas around this promo, but if you’re thinking about Vegas already, extra points won’t hurt. Don’t forget to register prior to your stay (see the link under “The Deal”). As always, we have added this to our list of Current hotel promotions.

Do you still receive mlife tier credits if you choose Hyatt as your base points?

Will rooms booked with Visa Signature Hotels work? I’d assume yes if Amex FHR works… but just thought I’d ask!
