Through 4/30/23, those transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors can enjoy a transfer bonus. We’re seeing a bonus of 30%, though Amex has at times targeted some customers with higher rates of 40% or 50%. With the 30% transfer bonus that we found on Frequent Miler team member cards, 1,000 Membership Rewards points transfer to 2,600 Hilton Honors points.
The Deal
- American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 30% transfer bonus when you transfer points to Hilton Honors. With the bonus:
- 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 2,600 Hilton Honors points
Key Terms
- Valid through 4/30/23
- Minimum transfer of 1,000 points and must transfer in increments of 1,000
- Maximum transfer of 3,000,000 points
Quick Thoughts
I’m generally not a big fan of transferring to Hilton since Hilton points can very frequently be purchased for half a cent per point. However, with the 30% transfer bonus, if you value Hilton points at half a cent each, you’re essentially getting about 1.3c per Amex point. With a specific property in mind for a high-value redemption, this might make sense.
I certainly wouldn’t recommend transferring speculatively though since, as noted above, you can very frequently buy Hilton points at a steep discount. I’d only transfer with a near-term use in mind.
Does this mean there won’t be any other transfer bonus for this April for Amex, as I think they always add transfer bonus(es) at the beginning of the month and this Hilton deal is all we got now…? Eyeing on Virgin Atlantic deal so I can get a good flight ticket to Japan 🙂
Not always. Go to our Current Point Transfer Bonuses page and go to the “expired” section and put in Amex. You’ll see that most of them start on the 1st of the month, but they’ve had some bonuses start on other days of the month over the past couple of years.

Hey Nick! I think you might be underselling this opportunity but please correct me if I’m wrong! Opting to buy Hilton points at .5 cents instead of using this transfer bonus sounds like you would be willing to pay an opportunity cost to hang on to your Amex points at a rate of 1.3 cents each. Given the AmEx Points Parade, the lack of any good standard transfer rates to AmEx hotel partners, and that you often talk about cashing out AmEx points via Schwab for 1.1 cents each, wouldn’t this be a pretty good use of AmEx points? Thanks for your thoughts!
Sure, it would be an otherwise OK use of Amex points if you need Hilton points right now. I generally prefer to transfer Amex points to airline programs for premium cabin international travel. You’re right that it’s not unreasonable to take advantage of this transfer bonus if you have a specific use in mind where you know you’re getting half a cent per point in value, but neither does it excite me.
While I always appreciate a good bonus transfer, I don’t foresee me ever transferring UR (or Amex) points to Hilton unless four consecutive nights open up at an amazing property and I’m just a few points shy of a four night (5th night free) stay and need the points immediately.
UR are much more valuable to me with Hyatt, as I’m getting at least 2-3 cents per point there, plus Globalist benefits that exceed my Hilton Diamond experience. The fifth night free is the exception at a few very nice Hilton properties. That’s a great perk of HHonors.
