Last I checked, it was possible to use OfficeMax gift cards to buy other gift cards in-store (including Visa/MasterCard gift cards), but many cashiers and managers do not allow it. YMMV.

Has anyone reported success upgrading OM gift cards recently? Received cards late last week and I tried two times unsuccessfully. The cashier was helpful and allowed me to checkout, but the register stopped me from using the OM GC even though they assured me the OM GC had $500. I tried once to purchase Visa GC and once to purchase MC GC at two separate stores. Anyone have any ideas?
I have tried both my Chase Ink Bold and Citi AA Exec to pay and it keeps saying “The card you entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit or debit card number.” Anyone know what this is happening?
