Just got the Refer a Friend advertisement email from Starwood. Interesting addition to the offer terms that I don’t remember seeing before: “NOTE: The value of the Referral Bonus may be taxable income to you; you are responsible for any federal or state taxes resulting from the Referral Bonus. Please consult your tax advisor if you have questions about the tax treatment of the Referral Bonus.” Also has limit of only 55k from referral bonuses per year. Offer is valid through 10/1/2014.
Interesting wrinkle. I expect that they’re just trying to protect themselves from any liability.
