There are some nice new Amex Offers out — including one for lift tickets, ski rentals, and ski lessons is Aspen. I found this on a couple of my cards that earn Membership Rewards. I imagine there could also be an offer for $60 back on $300 on some cards, though I haven’t seen it.
Aspen Snowmass: Spend $300+ on lift tickets/rentals/lessons, get 6,000 Membership Rewards points
The terms on this offer state that it is not valid if charged to your room and it is not valid on gift cards. It looks like this one is only valid for lift tickets, ski rentals, and ski lessons. You can buy online now (though note that it says that card reloads are excluded from the offer), and if you are going early in the season, you could actually get 3 days of tickets for $303 right now.
There is a handling fee and tax, so it’s about $312 all-in for that pass.
With those tickets, the first of your ten valid days must start by December 15th. If you’re looking to go around that time, it appears that December 15th is the Aspen Snowmass 50th anniversary. Lift tickets are available for just $6.50 per person that day, and it looks like you can buy ten tickets at a time.
If you need to rent equipment, you could combo a 2-day adult ticket from the chart above with a 2-day rental equipment package to trigger this offer.
Getting there is a value, too
Remember that until 11:59pm tonight, Delta has a flash sale to/from New York City. For some reason, the 5-week tool is showing me no availability, but if you look at flexible dates a week at a time, you can still see New York to Denver for 7500 miles one-way. Here are the days leading up to December 15th (the day with $6.50 lift tickets):
Availability on the way back the following week isn’t very good (only a couple of days with 8K flights). If you’re willing to go a bit earlier in December, I’m seeing availability every day.
Offer works for peak season, soo
Avid skiiers will recognize that the examples above are not during peak season, which certainly leads to those values. That said, remember that the offer expires 1/12/18, and since you can buy lift tickets in advance, you should be able to pick whenever you’d like to use it.
Bottom line
I’m not a skiier myself, but this is a pretty cool offer for those who are. If you book with the flash sale today, you’ll get a rebate on your lift tickets that nearly covers the number of miles you’ll pay from New York to Denver for a one-way (YMMV depending on where you’re from). Also, with the current transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic and the amazing availability on Delta flights using Virgin Atlantic miles, 6K Membership Rewards points feel more valuable today than they did yesterday (I booked New York to LA in a flat bed for 18K Membership Rewards points last night — see — Holy availability! Transcon flat beds in Delta business for 18K points; Hawaii cheap, too — for more detail). If you were already planning to make a ski trip to Aspen, check your Amex account for this new offer.
