Giant, Martin’s and Stop & Shop grocery stores are going to be offering 2x points when buying Mastercard gift cards from May 29 to June 4. If you can make use of the fuel points – or live in an area where you can redeem the points on groceries – this can be a great deal.

Quick Thoughts
This offer is good on variable load Mastercard gift cards which means you’ll earn 1,000 points for every $500 card you buy. Those points can be redeemed for $1 off every gallon of gas on up to 20 gallons which means you can save up to $20 per card. With an activation fee of $5.95, you don’t even need to max out the 20 gallon limit to make this profitable.
Some Giant and Martin’s stores now offer the opportunity to redeem your points for grocery savings instead. I’ve not looked into that new element to their programs deeply yet, but my understanding is that while redeeming points for gas can offer the greatest savings, grocery redemptions can be a great option too, especially if you’re not driving much right now or are planning on going all-out on this deal to rack up some grocery store spend and so would never be able to redeem all those points for discounted gas.
Speaking of which, there are a lot of cards that offer bonused spend at grocery stores right now due to Amex, Chase and Citi offering limited-time bonused spend at supermarkets. Many of the Chase cards have a $1,500 limit per month for bonused spend, so if you’ve not maxed out this month’s allowance yet, this could be a good opportunity.

Can someone confirm this promotion? I checked my local giant circular for next week, gift card promotions can not be found anywhere, actually I haven’t seen any gift card section for quite a few months. It’s strange.
Giant, Martin’s and Stop & Shop tend to have the same gift card promotions each week. Giant and Stop & Shop haven’t advertised them in their weekly ads for a month or two even though Martin’s has, so I originally thought only Martin’s was running the deals.
Based on reports from other people though, Giant and Stop & Shop have indeed been running the promos as well, they’ve just not been listing them in their weekly ad. To play safe, you could just buy one Mastercard gift card to verify that it’s working correctly.
Thanks, I tried today at a local Giant in Maryland, a $500 mastercard gift card purchase did not earn any fuel points. Let’s hope gift card promotion will return to Giant store soon.
I have to take it back, I did earn 1000 flexible points, which can be redeemed for gas. Guess this unadvertised promotion is indeed working at Giant. Thank you for the tip!
