Amazon: Save up to 50% when redeeming at least 1 Membership Rewards point (Targeted)

71

Amazon is back with a new pay-with-points promotion whereby targeted members can save when using at least 1 American Express Membership Rewards point to pay. We have sometimes seen varying targeted deals on offer, so it’s worth checking to see whether you have an offer and what it is.

The Deal

  • Amazon.com is offering a new targeted deal to receive a discount when using at least 1 Membership Rewards point during checkout. Example deals we have seen in the past include:
    • 15% off ($15 max discount)
    • 30% off ($30 or $60 max discount)
    • 40% off ($40 or $80 max discount)
    • 50% off ($50 or $100 max discount)
  • Direct link to this deal (our affiliate link)

Key Terms

  • This offer is for 40% off (up to $40 total discount) on the purchase of eligible products. Maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is $40 off per eligible Membership Rewards-enrolled Card or per one Amazon account.
  • To redeem, Eligible Card Members must first activate the offer, then apply the promotion at checkout for a purchase of eligible products using Membership Rewards® points for at least a portion of the purchase. Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all eligible products in your original order. Amazon reserves the right to cancel or modify this offer at any time.
  • This promotion is available only to Amazon.com customers who are Eligible Card Members. Eligible Card Members are certain U.S. American Express Card Members, as determined by American Express, with a Card that earns Membership Rewards points and is linked to their Amazon Site account through the Shop with Points enrollment process. See full Shop with Points Terms and Conditions for details: www.amazon.com/amexmr.
  • This offer is only available on eligible products. Eligible products are products sold and shipped by Amazon.com. Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities are not eligible, even if they are fulfilled by Amazon.com or Prime eligible. Digital content products are also not eligible. Offer is applied before shipping, taxes and fees. Shipping charges may apply to eligible products *Offer is available by invitation only, is non-transferable, is not redeemable for cash, and may not be resold. Offer may not be combined with other offers.
  • If any of the eligible products in your order are returned, you will receive a refund of the amount charged to your Card, subject to Amazon’s return and refund policies. Your refund will equal the original price of the eligible product less the proportional amount of the discount. If you’ve reached the maximum dollar discount available under this offer, you cannot reuse the discount after you return an eligible product. If you would like the Membership Rewards points returned to your Card Account instead of a refund, you must contact American Express within 60 days of receipt of the credit. If a refund cannot be processed by American Express, for reasons including but not limited to closure of your Card Account, Amazon will issue an Amazon Gift Card to you for an amount equal to the value of the Membership Rewards points used towards your product.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.
  • Terms and Conditions for the Membership Rewards program apply. Visit membershiprewards.com/terms for more information. Participating partners and available rewards are subject to change without notice.

Quick Thoughts

Personally, both my wife and I got targeted for 40% off up to $40 off this time, which is a deal that we’ll certainly use since we shop at Amazon all the time. While the terms indicate that this deal can not be used in conjunction with other deals, we often find that it does indeed stack with things like Prime Day deals or Black Friday when those happen concurrently.

It’s worth hitting the “activate” button sooner rather than later since you never know when the deal might get pulled.

Keep in mind that there are usually multiple different offer versions, but it only takes a second to click through and check which you might have. Let us know what offer you’ve gotten in the comments.

Thanks Tim. 30% for me. (This account has used many of these over many years.)

Sam

Showed up as only 10% off (up to $10) for me.

Kathy Carter

Me too! I haven’t been targeted for a higher percentage in sometime

I also got 10% off (up to $10). I think I’ve gotten “this promotion is not targeted for you” the last 5 or so times this promo was run after getting big offers previously. 10% is better than nothing i guess!

Craig

Me, three (or are we at 4 now?)
As noted, 10% is better than nothing.

However, be careful out there! I was targeted for 30%/$30, and bought a $100 gift card. I immediately realized that I never changed the default so AMEX deducted 10,000 MR points instead of 1 MR point. I cancelled the transaction immediately, and Amazon sent me an e-mail saying the transaction was successfully cancelled. I then redid the gift card purchase using just 1 MR point and fortunately still got the 30% off, but apparently it will take Amazon some time to notify AMEX that the first transaction was cancelled (according to AMEX). Hopefully I will get my 10,000 points back without too much stress and effort over the next 7-10 days–otherwise I’ll have to deal with AMEX customer support.

Is there some trick to getting ‘shop with points’ to function at baseline?

When I try to link my ABP to our Amazon account I keep getting the error “Your card has been added to the Amazon account (*snip-obfuscatedEmailAddress*). However, we were unable to enroll a rewards account. Please check here for eligibility information.” So I don’t seem to be able to connect pay with points at all.

The Amazon account is P2’s and the card is P1’s business.

yaaarp

Added P1 w/ verified cell phone to the ‘Amazon Family’ settings for P2’s Amazon account. But still getting the same error on trying to link the MR account.

In my case, accounts that were targeted for this promo in Oct will not be retargeted.

Nick Reyes

Both worked for me.

iahphx

Were you targeted this fall? Generally, it seems like it take at least several months with these Amazon points offers to have another shot at a discount.

Ramsey

Bluecat where have you been, Don Taco says hello

Chuck

Anyone know what this means: “Your points will be applied at checkout but we were not able to activate the promo code. If you have already activated this code, your discount will be applied at checkout.”

I show targeted for 40% off up to $40 but get this message and then can’t get a discount to trigger. I’ve had this a couple times now on these.

Nick Reyes

I see that message sometimes. Always works anyway.

Sco

I also got this message and I can’t get the discount to trigger

Oh, interesting. It appears I’ve got the same situation. It has always worked in the past (including on the last round of this) despite getting that message almost every time. Weird.

Ole

Sorry, stupid question, but how do I pay the remaining balance? The app doesn’t let me pay with 2 methods. As soon as I select another method to pay balance, I loose the MR discount.

Mbh

I always have that problem as well.

Fenspinbi

40% off on my end.

Morgan

Heads up that the offer wouldn’t work if I had anything in my cart that wasn’t shipped and sold by Amazon, OR that WAS shipped and sold by Amazon, but had a coupon applied to it.

Morgan

I got 50% off, up to $80

Whitney

I got 40%! I activated the promotion, do I have a deadline to use it? Want to wait for Black Friday deals.
