The Edit is a “luxury” hotel booking program through Chase Travel℠ that’s available to JP Morgan Reserve and Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders. It’s similar to Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program, but with a much more confounding moniker (nothing screams “luxury hotel” like “The Edit”).
The Edit stays include:
- Daily breakfast for 2
- $100 property credit per stay (such as dining or spa credits)
- Room upgrade at check-in (based on availability)
- Early check-in and late check-out (based on availability
- Complementary wifi
When eligible cardholders search for hotels within Chase Travel, properties that are a part of the program will show The Edit logo (see below). The full collection are also listed here. Ultimate Rewards can be used to book Edit properties at the normal rate of 1.5 cents per point.
Like FHR, bookings through the The Edit have – in most cases – also qualified for elite credit, rewards and perks when staying at most chain hotel properties. However, again like FHR, this has been an unofficial benefit.
At the end of last year, TPG reported that The Edit bookings now officially earn both elite nights / points and are also eligible for benefits according to whatever status a customer holds at the time of the stay.
When we originally saw this, we glossed over it thinking that nothing had really changed: there were still no public terms guaranteeing elite benefits and most hotels with rewards programs have always unofficially earned them.
However, the Chase Travel display for many properties now confirms that The Edit bookings earn elite benefits, by showing “Marriott Bonvoy eligible” or “IHG eligible” so that is a definite improvement on the previous situation and worth noting.
However, not all Edit bookings show this. For example, check out the Fairmont hotel below which has no mention of being Accor Live Limitless (ALL) eligible:
We’re not sure if that means that it doesn’t earn ALL program benefits, or if that’s just a display issue.
Quick Thoughts
In practice, we’re not certain that anything has really changed regarding which The Edit bookings earn elite credit, but it’s nice that you can at least get a pre-booking confirmation from a Chase rep that you should be earning elite points and nights on some properties.
We’re assuming that this all works in practice essentially as it did previously and that some Edit bookings, which don’t show program eligibility, won’t earn any program rewards. We’d love to hear any data points from anyone that hasn’t received elite benefits on an Edit stay (if they exist) and also from folks who have recent examples of receiving elite credit for a stay at a hotel that didn’t show it being eligible in advance.
Does JPM Reserve also extend to the Ritz cards?
