With Frontier offering free companion travel for those with Platinum (and Diamond) status later this year, this promotion could be worth considering for someone who travels with Frontier frequently.

Quick Thoughts
Earning 20,000 Elite Status Points with Frontier by April 30, 2025 is a pretty steep hill to climb, especially if you’re starting from scratch. Regular members earn 10 miles per dollar on flights with Frontier, as well as 10 Elite Status Points per dollar. While that might make it seem like you’d need to spend $2,000 on flights by April 30, it’s actually a little less than that.
That’s because once you reach 10,000 points (i.e. $1,000 of spend on flights), you earn Silver status. That boosts your earning rate to 12x, so you’d then only need to spend $833.33 on Frontier flights, for a total of $1,833.33. Considering how cheap their flights can be – and the fact that spend on taxes and fees (presumably) don’t earn Elite Status Points – you’d probably need to fly to the Final Frontier in order to earn enough Elite Status Points in time.
There are ways to accelerate your earnings though. The best way is to get the Frontier credit card.

At the time of publishing this post, the card awards Gold status after your first purchase. Frontier Miles members with Gold status earn 14 miles per dollar on Frontier flights, along with 14 Elite Status Points per dollar. You also earn 5 redeemable miles per dollar spent on the card, along with 1 Elite Status Point per dollar spent. If you pay for Frontier flights with your new Frontier credit card, that’s a total of 15x Elite Status Points you’re earning, in addition to 19x miles. If trying to earn the 20,000 Elite Status Points purely through spend on Frontier flights, in this scenario you’d “only” need to spend $1,333.33.
That’s still a high spend requirement purely on flights though. If you have a lot of dining spend, the Frontier card earns 3x miles and 1x Elite Status Point on dining expenditure. Only earning 1 Elite Status Point per dollar would therefore require a significant amount of spending on eating out by the end of April.
If you anticipate flying with Frontier a lot, picking up a GoWild! pass of some variety and/or a Discount Den membership might make sense. Those award bonus miles and Elite Status Points of varying amounts depending on the type of pass or membership and your status level.
A newly-minted Frontier credit card holder with Gold status would therefore earn 8,400 miles and points when purchasing a GoWild! annual pass which costs $599. That would leave 11,600 Elite Status Points to go, although that would be tricky if you’re flying using the pass as your additional Frontier spend would, in theory, be minimal.
OK, so it’ll be a bit of a slog reaching 20,000 Elite Status Points by April 30, 2025. That being the case, is it even worth making the effort?
That depends on how much you value the current and future benefits of Platinum status. Platinum members get both a free carry-on and a free checked bag on all their flights not only for themselves, but for everyone else on their booking too. That could be valuable for a larger family or a group of friends who travel together. Platinum members are also eligible for a premium seat at booking and an UpFront Plus seat 12 hours to departure, with their travel companions being eligible for a preferred seat at booking and a premium seat at check-in if available.
Both a Platinum member and their travel companions get Priority Boarding Zone 1. Those with Platinum status also get 50% off a Discount Den membership, the ability to gift Silver status to someone else and more. For those who fly with pets, Platinum members get a pet-in cabin fee waiver which could be huge as Frontier charges $99 per pet, per direction. Five round trip flights with a pet would ordinarily cost almost $1,000; with Platinum status that would cost $0.
Platinum status is also due to get more valuable in mid-2025. That’s because Frontier will be adding free companion travel for those with Platinum and Diamond status; all the companion has to pay are the government taxes and fees starting at $5.60.
For people who travel – or could travel – frequently with Frontier, Platinum status can therefore be extremely valuable. It’s just a shame that even with this fast track it could be hard to attain.
