Delta Business Cards: Limited-time offers up to 110K SkyMiles

12

Today, Amex came out with new, limited-time welcome offers that allow you to earn between 90,000-110,000 SkyMiles after being approved for a new Delta SkyMiles business credit card. All three of these offers are on the higher end of what we’ve historically seen (but then again, so are Delta award prices). The minimum spend required is elevated as well, as much as $12,000 for the Delta Reserve card. These offers will all expire 7/16/25.

Quick Thoughts

Delta SkyMiles aren’t the most valuable rewards currency on the market, but they are typically worth at least 1 cent each toward Delta flights, which means that these offers can be valued at ~$900-$1100+ in air travel. While any one of these offers probably won’t get you an international business class flight, that’s no small potatoes for those who do fly Delta often. And the cards’ 15% discount on awards will make the miles go even farther.

Regardless of the miles earned, if you’re interested in elite status, the Platinum and Reserve cards can be a great choice thanks to their $2,500 MQD Headstarts. See our post “Shortcuts to Delta Elite status” for complete details.

Note a significant limitation to SkyClub access for the Delta Reserve card: cardholders are limited to 15 Sky Club “visit-days” per year, unless they spend $75K on the card within a calendar year.

I don’t think that I’d rather take one of these over a big transferable currency offer (like 90K on the Chase Ink Business Preferred, 200K on the Amex Business Gold card or 250K on the Amex Business Platinum card), but these offers certainly aren’t bad compared to the required spend.

ugh looks like I’m in popup jail

Gene

@ Tim — “Delta Reserve cards now earn 1 Medallion-Qualifying Dollar (MQD) for every $10 spent on the card, while the Platinum cards earn 1 MQD for every $20 spent on the card, severely hampering the ability to earn status through spend.”

I don’t understand your comment. The 1 MQD per $10 hasn’t changed and doesn’t “severely hamper the ability to earn status”. In fact, it is easier to earn top status on Delta via credit cards than on any other legacy US airline. With Delta, if you pay $2,000 in annual fees (for four cards) and spend $180,000 on your two Reserve cards, you earn Diamond status and unlimited SkyClub access. With AA, you need to pay $595 for a Citi Executive card and spend $180,000, but you only get EXP “lite” since you don’t get the 250k Choices that used to be included with EXP status until you spend $230,0000. For AS top status, you need to pay an annual fee of $95 spend $300,000 on Alaska VISA cards, and for UA top status with lounge access, you need to pay an annual fee of $695 and spend $420,000 on UA credit cards. Basically, Delta lets you shortcut the spending requirements by paying the extra $$ in annual fees.

Gene

True. If you go with the four cards, you still have to spend $50,000 on a Reserve card to reach Platinun status, which is double the old waiver and WAY more $$ in AFs.

Tim, I would love to get your expertise. I have two Amex Blue business plus cards and a Hilton Honors business a Marriott business and a Delta business card. This bars me from getting any other Amex co-branded cards from what I can tell since it seems like I get a pop up every time and even when I apply knowing I wont get the SUB I get a denial every time. Im trying to get into another Amex Hilton card Aspire/Surpass with a free night certificate. I listened to your Ask Us Anything yesterday and your insight on struggling more on hotel points path was spot on for me also. Would love to know what your strategy would be related to Amex (if Hilton interests you?) Or will you, similar to Greg, value Chase and or Citi for your hotel strategy. Sorry for the long comment. Love the your work. John

Pierre

You can only have 5 Amex credit cards at once so you’re at the maximum number

(Exceptions are the Amex Green/Gold/Platinum + business versions of those cards – those are “charge cards” and do not count towards your 5 card limit)

You could close some of those cards are but then the downside is closing it could land you in pop up jail.

John

Thank you

Nate

what is the advantage of 2 BBP cards?

John

2 points anywhere up to 50k

Tim

If I’m already at Amex’s 5 credit card limit, would applying for a Delta business card under my company’s EIN (instead of my SSN), help me get around that limit? And could I still link it to my personal SkyMiles account?

Gene

I don’t think so; however, apparently you can exceed the 5-card limit when opening certain cards. When I opened my 4th DL card (have Plat, Plat Biz, Reserve, Reserve Biz), I also had (still have) a Hilton Aspire and Blue Biz card. My advice is give it a shot and see what happens!

Tim, there’s a small typo of $11,000 (I wish!) in the quick thoughts section
