On the same day that a new Amex Business Platinum welcome offer launched last week with an offer giving $500 back when spending $2,500 on airfare, a different version of that offer appeared as an Amex Offer on targeted cards.
Rather than giving $500 back as a statement credit, it only gives $250 back. Still, that could be useful if you’ll need to drop $2.5k on flights and/or flight taxes and fees in the next couple of months.
The Deal
- Spend $2,500+ in one or more transactions on flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel & get $250 back as a statement credit with an Amex Offer.
Key Terms
- Expires June 17, 2025.
- Only US-issued American Express Business Platinum Cards are eligible.
- Limit of $250 statement credit per eligible Card Member account.
- Offer valid only on qualifying airfare for scheduled flights on passenger carriers, for flights booked online, via airline mobile app, via phone, in-person at an airline ticket counter, or through American Express Travel.
- Offer not valid for flights purchased through any third-party, including third-party booking sites or travel agencies. The purchase must meet minimum spend requirement. Any portion of Membership Rewards points, credits or Miles used to partially pay the airfare will not count towards the minimum spend requirement for the purchase. Excludes charter or private jet flights, flights booked as part of a vacation or travel package, inflight purchases, gift cards, purchase of miles/points, and any other purchases made within airports such as retail, dining, and lounge charges.
- Qualifying purchases must total a minimum of $2,500 USD, following conversion from a foreign currency. The Offer is only valid for bookings paid for by 6/17/2025, however the airline travel can occur after the end date for the Offer, provided that the booking was made within the applicable Offer period.
Quick Thoughts
As noted in the offer terms, this Amex Offer is only available on Business Platinum cards, but perhaps there’s an alternate version of the offer available on other types of cards.
Getting $250 back on $2,500 of spend obviously isn’t as good as getting $500 back via the new Business Platinum welcome offer. However, it still represents some good savings, especially considering this $250 statement credit offer is available on existing cards and so you don’t have to apply for a new card in order to get it. What would be sweet is if people getting a new Business Platinum card with the $2,500/$500 offer also get targeted for this $2,500/$250 Amex Offer for a total of $750 back.
We don’t have any data points yet, but I suspect that paying taxes and fees on award flights would count as eligible airfare for the purposes of this Amex Offer. That could certainly help lessen the sting when booking awards with pricey additional charges.
If you’ll be booking paid flights, check Cashback Monitor or Savewise to see if the airline you’re booking with is available via any airline shopping portals. If it is, do a flight search while having the Capital One Shopping browser extension installed in case you get a targeted email offering an even higher cashback rate. For example, I’ve gotten emails from Capital One Shopping giving 8% cashback with Qatar Airways, 9% with Virgin Atlantic, etc.

Moot point for me since I wasn’t targeted but would this apply to pay with points if you want to use the 35% Biz Plat rebate? A $2500 flight would cost 162.5K points and with a $250 credit would make points worth close to 1.7 cents.
