Alliant Cashback Visa going from 2.5% back everywhere to 1.6%

1

The Alliant Cashback Visa has been an under-the-radar star for cashback lovers for some time. For folks who also hold an Alliant high-yield checking account, the card earns 2.5% everywhere on up to $10K in spend per billing cycle, after which it goes down to 1.5%. Even with the added checking account hoop to jump through, earning 2.5% on up to $120K/year is enough of a carrot to make it worthwhile for some folks.

Unfortunately, the fun is coming to an end, as Alliant is telling cardholders that, as of 9/1/25, the card will transition to earning 1.6% on all purchases.

Quick Thoughts

I imagine most readers have never heard of the Alliant Cashback Visa card, but it does have a smallish group of fans who love the ease of the 2.5% cashback everywhere. Unfortunately, the lights at that party are about to turn off.

There are plenty of cards that offer 2% back (or 2 transferable points) everywhere, so there’s no reason to hold onto this one once September hits. Adios, Alliant.

Numerous other credit unions have recently boosted their 1.5% cards to 2% cards if you have a 5000 or higher limit. So, it seems a bit confusing they’re nerfing their 2.5% with hoops to a flat 1.6%.
