Delta award sale: Brisbane round trip from 44K SkyMiles, Taipei from 40K round trip, & more

3

Delta is running another flash award sale, this time for destinations across the Pacific Ocean. This could be a long way to travel in economy, but with round trip pricing to Australia starting at 44K, New Zealand from 64K, and Asia from 40K, the price is good.

Quick Thoughts

This award sale gives you a chance to get a decent enough amount of value from your SkyMiles, although it’s not what I’d call outsized value.

For example, you could fly from Atlanta to Sydney round trip from 66,000 miles round trip + $134 in taxes and fees. If you have some element of flexibility with your dates, you might find yourself with quite a few choices.

Delta Atlanta to Sydney

The cash pricing that I saw was $886 round trip. That means you’d be getting 1.14 cents per point of value which is marginally higher than our Reasonable Redemption Value of 1.1 cents per point.

That’s not even the lowest pricing available to get to Brisbane. If you’d be departing from the west coast, there are flights on Delta from Los Angeles from 40,000 miles round trip + $124 in taxes and fees. Hong Kong and Taipei are available from 44,000 miles round trip, Auckland from 64,000 miles, Tokyo from 48,000 miles, and more.

Remember that if you have a Delta credit card (other than the Delta Blue card) you get a 15% discount on award bookings. That makes round trip flights to Brisbane as low as 34,000 miles round trip, Tokyo as low as 40,800 miles round trip, etc.

Something important to be aware of is that this lowest pricing is booked into Main Basic which is Delta’s basic economy fare. You’ll get a free checked bag, but you won’t be eligible for seat upgrades if you have Delta status, there’s no seat assignment until check-in, you’ll board in Zone 8, etc. That – and the fact that some of these routes are extremely long journeys in economy – makes these fares a little less appealing. However, for someone who’s happy enough traveling in economy and/or needs availability for multiple people, this award sale could prove to be useful.

This sale ends on Thursday September 25, so you’ll need to book by tomorrow night if you’re interested in this reduced award pricing.

I think you mean the sale ends on THURSDAY September 25 (or did you mean it ends on Wednesday September 24?

Hugh

Delta One to BNE from JFK is as low as 136k one way with the cardholder discount. Not bad for delta during peak summer dates in Australia.
