Aeroplan card to temporarily add Amazon to Pay Yourself Back, but at a poor 0.8c rate

1

The Chase Aeroplan card offers the opportunity to use points to “pay yourself back” in certain categories. From October 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025, cardholders will have the ability to pay themselves back for qualifying Amazon purchases, including Whole Foods purchases. Unfortunately, the redemption rate will be 0.8c per Aeroplan point. That is well below our Reasonable Redemption Value for Aeroplan points, so we’d generally recommend against using Aeroplan points this way.

The Deal

  • The Chase Aeroplan card promotional Pay Yourself Back calendar has been updated to indicated that Amazon.com will be a qualifying Pay Yourself Back category (including Whole Foods purchases) from October 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.

Key Terms

  • Beginning October 1, Pay Yourself Back® will be available for purchases at Amazon.com, including Whole Foods Market.
  • Each point you redeem through Pay Yourself Back for a statement credit towards qualifying purchases in promotional categories is worth $.008, which means that 100 points equals $.80 in redemption value.
  • Valid October 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025.

Quick Thoughts

You can find full details of the Chase Aeroplan card on our Chase Aeroplan card page. In short, the only category where it ordinarily makes sense to use Pay Yourself Back is travel, since you’ll get 1.25c per point for travel redemptions (up to 200,000 points redeemed per year). You’ll also get 1.25c per point when redeeming against the card’s annual fee. Both of those categories are already a bit below our Reasonable Redemption Value of 1.4c per point, but could make sense in some situations.

However, redeeming for Amazon purchases at 0.8c per point is far enough below our RRV that we just wouldn’t recommend it. While Amazon does make for a relatively convenient redemption for many people, particularly during the holiday shopping season, you can likely do much better with other redemptions.

Using your crystal ball, do you think they will extend the 1.25 cpp Pay Yourself Back for travel next year?
