Capital One Offers, the credit cardholder offers found within your Capital One credit card login (not to be confused with Capital One Shopping, the public portal open to anyone), has some incredible new offers out today. One of those is for a purchase at Hotels.com: Spend $350, earn 20,000 miles. That’s an incredible return if you have a need to book a hotel.

The Deal

  • Capital One Offers has targeted some users with a deal to spend $350 at Hotels.com and earn 20,000 Capital One miles

Key Terms

  • Must be targeted and click through the associated button
  • Spend must be met in a single transaction on non-excluded items and after discounts, store credits and redemption dollars are applied and before taxes and fees
  • Not eligible for purchases made with coupon codes or with airfare included

Quick Thoughts

This is a fantastic return on a Hotels.com booking. Based on our Reasonable Redemption Value of 1.45c per Capital One mile, this is like a $290 return on $350 (and in some cases, it is possible to do far better than 1.45c per mile). If I had this offer, I’d probably be checking over all of my upcoming trips to decide where and how this could be useful.

It is a little unclear to me whether the total spent needs to be before taxes. The terms seem to suggest that you must spend $350 before taxes, though the language there seems like it was written with a more traditional store in mind. Still, the safest bet would be using this offer on a booking where the rate is higher than $350 before taxes & fees.

Note that there are many other similar offers available for other travel brands (including a Trip.com offer to spend $300 and earn 15,000 miles), so it is well worth logging in to check which offers you’ve received.

Still no sign of a pending transaction and I’m getting anxious of taking a $200 hit on a booking I wouldn’t have done without the $200 offer. Anyone with any experience whether I should’ve received something showing pending by now or any other sign of hope?

cap1

same, i think i ll cancel this booking.

storm

I cancelled mine too. Too much risk for me personally.

Bolt

It’s funny to me I’m not the only one who went back to this post.
I’m going to call them tomorrow and make sure it applied.

Asher

After completing my stay, it now shows as Pending for me. Before the stay it only showed as Waiting.

Asher

Final update: I received the reward 3 days after completing my stay.

Note that the Order Amount shown is pre-tax. I’m glad that I booked a slightly more expensive room in order to hit the minimum before tax.

Booked it on Friday, thank you! What a great deal.

Had Viator for 25X but unfortunately not targeted for any of these headliner offers that we might make use of. Bummer that we don’t have an upcoming trip that can make good use of the Viator offer.

Something I have noticed – Capital One Offers will show you different earning rates if you scroll and “find” the offer versus using the search box to find the store. The discrepancy can be large, like a store boosted to 12X on the page only coming up a 2X in the search box. Keep this in mind if you just do a search and think you aren’t targeted!

Ben

Presumably this won’t work with all of the “reserve now, pay later” options?

DP: 15K for $350 on my VX card. Went away to do more research and came back and offer was gone 🙁

Piyush

I got spend $550, get $200 back.

Christopher Morgan

My offer is for $550 spend with $250 back. Still a good deal

Just a warning that this might be one-time use for any one of these elevated offers. They were all available on my account but disappeared after I clicked through for 2,500 on $50 at PetSmart.

Teddy Panthers

Didn’t expect one-time use across all similar deals.

Asher

I can confirm the same thing happened to me. I had offers for $200 for $550 spend on Hotels.com and $150 for $500 spend on Trip.com

I was going to split a ~$1200 hotel booking and use both offers, but after using the Hotels.com offer, when I went back to my Capital One Offers tab, many tiles were removed (including the Trip.com one). When I re-loaded the page, the only offer for Trip.com was 3% off.

John

I’m seeing something like this as well. I used a $100 Shutterfly offer yesterday for 7,500 miles and today all the elevated offers are gone. My wife has all the elevated offers on her account.

Nathan

I just don’t see the offers tab in my account anymore. Neither in app or online. All I have is the ‘online’ shopping offers. I wonder why

Nate

Same. When I looked I had various offers. I added one for CVS (since I was planning to go) and now all the other offers are gone.

Christian

Nothing but I did see 15x on Hertz and 25x on Viator.

Robert

Is there the opportunity to buy a hotels.com GC and use it for future bookings? WOuld the offer also be good buying the GC?

Stephen Pepper

Unlikely; payment is processed by CashStar, so it probably won’t track unless Capital One Offers are more lenient (like Chase Offers).

Brent

Nothing. Bummer. However, 9x on JB Vacations isn’t bad if you pay cash on stuff — they often can be lower priced for Caribbean getaways.

Harold

mine was spend $550 but either way, awesome deal
