Royal Jordanian status match: get Oneworld Sapphire for $149-$199 (but not for US residents)

1

Royal Jordanian is offering an enhanced status match that can get you Oneworld Sapphire status for $149-$199. Unlike normal where you can only match from status with other airlines, through March 15 you can match from airline loyalty programs too.

There is a big catch though: it’s not available for US residents.

  • Approved members will not receive a physical status card.

Quick Thoughts

The match to Silver Jay status isn’t particularly exciting seeing as that only gets you Oneworld Ruby which provides limited benefits on other Oneworld airlines.

It’s the match to Gold Sparrow status that’s far more interesting because that gets you Oneworld Sapphire status. Oneworld Sapphire provides the following benefits:

  • Access to Business Class lounges
  • Access to Business Class priority check-in
  • Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating
  • Priority on waitlists and when on standby
  • Priority boarding
  • When you fly on oneworld member airlines, you can check-in an extra baggage for free, in addition to your ticketed baggage allowance
  • Priority baggage handling

Royal Jordanian’s status match is normally only available for those with qualifying airline status which doesn’t include any US-based airlines. That said, you might still have status with an eligible airline due to crediting paid flights to an overseas program, via credit card spending, etc. You can find the full list of eligible airlines here, but it includes:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Of those, the match from Emirates Skywards might be of the most interest. That’s because the Emirates Skywards Premium World Elite Mastercard comes with Gold status for the first year, with the ability to retain that with $40K of spending per membership year. Emirates Gold matches to Royal Jordanian Gold Sparrow which is what in turn gets you Oneworld Sapphire status. Matching to Gold Sparrow from an airline program comes with a lower $149 application fee, hence why that route would be preferable over matching from a hotel program if possible.

However, having the ability to match to Gold Sparrow from a hotel program for a higher fee of $199 could still be appealing for many people who live in an eligible country. Again, you can find the full list of eligible hotel programs and status levels here, but some of them include:

  • Hilton Diamond
  • Hyatt Globalist
  • IHG Platinum
  • IHG Diamond
  • Marriott Titanium
  • Marriott Platinum

At least three of those – Hilton Diamond, IHG Platinum, and Marriott Platinum – can be obtained by simply having an eligible credit card.

As mentioned earlier though, there is a big catch which is that this status match isn’t available for US residents. That’ll greatly limit the ability for many Frequent Miler readers to take advantage of this opportunity. However, we do have many overseas readers and/or readers who have, say, dual nationality who might have an easier time of showing that they reside in an eligible country even if that’s not where they primarily spend all their time.

For those who are able to utilize this status match but who frequently fly domestically in the US, Oneworld Sapphire with an overseas airline program like Royal Jordanian can get you into American Airlines’ Admirals Clubs and Flagship Lounges when flying a Oneworld airline like American Airlines, something that isn’t the case if you have Platinum status or higher with American Airlines.

If you’re interested in this Royal Jordanian status match, you have until March 15, 2026 if you want to match via a hotel loyalty program. I wouldn’t wait until the end of that day though as the timing might be based on the local time in Jordan, in which case the opportunity to match will expire earlier in the day than midnight ET.

I’m grateful when you guys posted about this last year (before the increased limitations and before they closed it). Helped me with a BA J trip where BA wanted $100 per passenger to select seats but with Saphire it was free.
