In honor of its 100th anniversary, American Airlines is giving away 100,000 AAdvantage miles to 100 lucky folks through its “Centennial Sweepstakes” promotion. In addition, if you book an American Airlines flight within the entry period for the sweepstakes, you get 100 additional entries, up to a maximum of four bookings.

Quick Thoughts

There will undoubtedly be ~two gazillion entries for this promo, but it only takes a second to enter, so there’s little harm in trying.

You get 100 additional entries for each AA confirmation code entered, up to a total of 4. I happened to have one sitting around from booking an AA flight through Atmos Rewards, and that worked just fine.

My assumption is that a confirmation code for a flight that’s canceled after you used it to enter would still count as 100 valid entries, so there doesn’t seem to be any reason someone should have fewer than 400 if you want to take the time.

Data point #2: My wife and I are on the same confirmation code (booked through my account) and it appears that she was able to get the bonus entries as well. I mean, I’m not sure how to tell for sure but confetti flew and it didn’t kick her entry out or anything.

Data point: Only one confirmation code can be entered at a time and only one entry can be made per day. So, for those of us who have a number of upcoming AA flights, it seems that we need to enter once per day up to four times.
