Save at Amazon with American Express Reward Dollars (from cash back cards)

2

It looks like there’s a new promotion out to save on Amazon purchases when using American Express reward dollars. Award Wallet reports this as saving when using one American Express membership rewards point, but I don’t see a deal available with Membership Rewards points. Instead, the link they reported goes to a deal to use Amazon American Express reward dollars and save.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any American Express cards that earn cash back in my household, so I can’t see the details. However, between the details reported by Award Wallet and past experience with similar deals, we can make some educated guesses. The bottom line is that if you have an American Express card that earns cash back rewards, it’s worth clicking through to see if you can score a discount on Amazon purchases.

The Deal

  • You can save on Amazon purchases when using American Express reward dollars. Typically, you’ll want to use the minimum amount of rewards money necessary to trigger the discount, which Award Wallet reports could be between 10% and 50% off.
  • Direct link to this deal

Key Terms

  • Valid through December 31, 2026 (or while supplies last)
  • Must redeem at least 429 points ($3) according to the offer as reported by Award Wallet
  • Exact details, percentages, and maximum discounts will vary from one user to another.

Quick Thoughts

We don’t have a ton of detail on this particular offer since we don’t have a card that earns American Express Reward Dollars. However, if you have a qualifying card, it only takes a few seconds to click through and see if you have a targeted offer.

If you have an offer, let us know in the comments the percentage off and maximum discount, along with the minimum redemption amount. With all of these deals to use rewards to make purchases on Amazon, the best deal is always to use as few rewards as possible in order to trigger the discount. You don’t want to cover your entire purchase with rewards because you’ll typically get very poor value for your rewards. However, it can absolutely make sense to use enough rewards to trigger a big discount.

I got 10% discount on a $24 item by using my Blue Cash Everyday card and applied $3 Amex Reward Dollars. I also selected the no-rush discount. The order total came to be $19.63, including tax.
