Aeroplan promo: Earn 3k bonus points for one way flight or 6k bonus points for round trip

4

There’s been a lot in the news over the last week or so about reduced travel demand between the US and Canada. Perhaps as a result of that weakened demand, Air Canada is running a new promotion offering up to 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points when booking flights between the two countries.

Air Canada Aeroplan 3.000 6,000 bonus points promotion

The Deal

  • Fly Air Canada between the US and Canada and earn:
    • 3,000 bonus Aeroplan points for a one way flight
    • 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points for a round trip flight
  • Direct link to registration.

Key Terms

  • Book by April 13, 2025 at 23:59pm PST for travel through December 15, 2025.
  • During the Offer Period, earn up to 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points on a new booking of a (1) round trip or one-way trip of Eligible Scheduled Flights to an Eligible Destination for travel during the Travel Period.
  • “Eligible Scheduled Flight” means a flight operated by Air Canada® (including flights operated under the Air Canada Express banner and operated by Air Canada Rouge) between an airport in the USA and an airport in Canada. It does not include codeshare and interline flights.
  • “Eligible Fare” means those Air Canada published fares that are exclusively eligible for this Offer: Business Class flexible, Business Class lowest, Premium Economy flexible, Premium Economy lowest, Premium Rouge flexible, Premium Rouge lowest, Economy Latitude, comfort, Economy Flex and Economy Standard.
  • To participate in the Offer, the Aeroplan Member must register for the Offer during the Offer Period BEFORE booking the Eligible Scheduled Flights, by entering their Aeroplan number in the registration box of the landing page and clicking on “Register now”. If you received the offer by email and clicked on the “Register and book” button from the email, you are automatically registered for the offer.
  • To participate in this Offer, a minimum of a one-way trip is required. For clarity, a one-way trip consists of one origin and one destination (one bound) between an airport in the USA and the Eligible Destination in Canada. For example, a booking from Los Angeles (LAX) to Montreal (YUL) that has a stopover in Toronto (YYZ) is considered a one-way trip and will be awarded 3,000 bonus Aeroplan points.
  • Two one-way Eligible Scheduled Flights* booked in Economy Flex will collectively be awarded 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points.
  • A round-trip booking, in turn, consists of two bounds: One from an airport in the USA to the Eligible Destination in Canada, and a second one from the Eligible Destination in Canada back to the USA. One round-trip Eligible Scheduled Flight in Economy Flex will be awarded 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points.
  • Eligible Scheduled Flights must be the subject of a new booking, created for the first time during the Offer Period, with a new booking reference number. Any booking made prior to the start of the Offer Period that is subsequently changed to include travel dates within the Travel Period will not be considered a new booking that is eligible for the Offer.
  • The departure of the first outbound trip must commence in the USA to be eligible for this Offer.
  • Flight redemption bookings and bookings made with a combination of points and cash are not eligible for this Offer.
  • To be eligible to receive the bonus Aeroplan points, an Aeroplan Member must provide their Aeroplan number at the time of booking.
  • Unless otherwise specified, Offer cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion, including for certainty, points earned in conjunction with the Aeroplan Elite Status bonus which are expressly excluded from this Offer.
  • Bonus Aeroplan points awarded through this promotion will count towards Everyday Status Qualification as part of Aeroplan Elite Status.
  • Bonus Aeroplan points awarded are not Status Qualifying Miles (SQM).

Quick Thoughts

This is a potentially very generous promotion, especially if you can find low fares between the US and Canada. For example, at the time of writing this post you could get flights from San Francisco to Vancouver for only $64 one way. Prices in the other direction are available from $89, so you’re looking at spending $153 round trip. Earning 6,000 bonus points means you’d be getting an excellent return of almost 40 points per dollar on top of your regular earnings. Update: I just noticed that the $64 fare I saw is operated by United, so wouldn’t be eligible for this promo as flights have to be on Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge metal.

There are some important things to be aware of with this promotion. For starters, you have to register for the offer before booking your flights. Then your first flight has to originate in the US, although your next eligible flight can be a flight back to the US from Canada.

The registration page for the promotion says you’ll earn 6,000 bonus points, but that’s only if you book a round trip flight or two one way flights. One way flights earn 3,000 bonus points and there’s a limit of 6,000 bonus points total.

Unless I’m missing something, the T&Cs say you only get 3,000 points maximum unless you book economy flex, in which case you can earn an additional 3k on a 2nd trip (either one way or the return of the roundtrip)

Does it have to be paid or can it also be booked with Aeroplan miles?
