Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Update: Some people are reporting as high as a 20% bonus. H/T reader Claes J.
Some people are reporting a targeted 10%-20% transfer bonus from American Express Membership Rewards. This appears to be highly targeted, but it’s worth logging in to check since Aeroplan is such a valuable transfer for Star Alliance flights. Of note: there is no end date noted; previous airline transfer bonuses with no end date have generally ended quickly and without advance notice, so this is one to consider promptly if targeted.
The Deal
- Amex is offering a highly targeted 10%-20% transfer bonus from Membership Rewards to Air Canada’s Aeroplan
Key Details
- Must transfer in increments of 1,000. With this bonus, 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 1,100 Aeroplan miles pr 1,200 Aeroplan miles depending on your bonus.
Quick Thoughts
Aeroplan has a useful award chart with some good sweet spots that make it an excellent Amex transfer partner under normal circumstances (i.e. the usual 1,000:1,000 ratio). With this bonus (if you’re targeted), you’ll get 1,100 or 1,200 Aeroplan miles for each 1,000 Membership Rewards points transferred.
Here’s a look at round trip award prices from the Continental US and Canada — note that one-ways are half the cost of a round trip (but that round trips allow stopovers and open jaws in various situations that can be useful).
I imagine this transfer bonus is not widely available, but it’s a good opportunity for those people who are targeted.
As noted at the top, we’ve seen a couple of these open-ended targeted transfer bonuses before. Last year, there was a similar transfer bonus to Aeroplan (See: Weird transfer bonus. Don’t click it unless you’re ready to use it…). Initially, people reported the bonus disappearing after clicking on it — that is to say that they saw the bonus, clicked on it, thought it over for a few hours, then logged back in and found the bonus was gone. We’ve since seen targeted transfer bonuses to Aeroplan and Cathay Pacific that have lasted for a short time (just a few days or a week or two). I would work under the assumption that this offer will not be around long. If you’re targeted, think it over sooner rather than later. (On the other hand, my wife’s account has had a transfer bonus to Hilton showing since late last year I think).
If anyone has been targeted for a bonus better than 10%, let us know in the comments. We’ve added this to our list of current point transfer bonuses with an end date of 12/31/19 since it is open-ended, but I would expect this one to more likely disappear within days.

I just checked and I am seeing a 20% transfer bonus (1,000 MR = 1,200 Aeroplan)
Awesome! Lucky you! I’ll update the post with that, thanks.
