Quick Thoughts
A return of 20,000 Membership Rewards is a pretty good deal if you need to book paid flights of $1,000+ with Air France or KLM.
Be aware that flights have to originate in the US with the KLM Amex Offer. There’s no similar stipulation with the Air France offer, so flights should be able to originate from elsewhere so long as they’re charged in USD.
Unlike many other airlines, both Air France and KLM appear on some cashback portals, so that offers a way to earn an additional 1-2% on top of the 20,000 Membership Rewards.
[…] it might make sense to pay entirely in cash, especially if you can also take advantage of the Air France and/or KLM Amex Offers that are offering 20,000 Membership Rewards when spending $1,000. That said, with 50% off award […]

Hello – Do you know if the Air France economy flights can be upgraded to business with miles? Or is it not worth it with miles to do so?
Even on the rare occasion it’s available, it’s generally not worth upgrading with miles as the number of miles you need to use and cash co-pay is too expensive.
Thanks!
Is there a deadline for when travel must take place? Can I book April 2018 tickets as long as they are booked by July 31st? It looks like AMEX has run similar offers in the past. I would be giving up my status privileges on Delta, so I want to be sure.
There’s no deadline for the travel dates. Amex Offers are triggered when the charge hits your account, so that should be as soon as you book the flight regardless of when you’ll be traveling.
Amex Offers for hotels work a bit differently as they don’t always take payment straight away, but with flights you’ll be good.
I need a bunch of domestic business / first west to east coast trips in fall for family. are there any ways to find / book domestic US via KLM or Air France for Delta metal? I didn’t think it was going to be possible but did want to ask / try. Thanks in advance
Try to book on Air France or KLM website and see if you can find the flights. As long as the purchase comes from those websites, it should trigger the offer.
Does booking award flights qualify for this promotion?
TOTAL FOR YOUR SELECTION
224 000 Miles
+ 1,204.08 USD
In theory it should, so long as that award originates in the US – award flights aren’t listed as being excluded.
KLM does have that clause but Air France does not seem to have it.
That’s correct – for some reason I’d thought your initial comment had mentioned KLM but it hadn’t.
Just a tip: you can use this offer on Delta for international flights. There was a similar 20k MR points offer for $1k+ on KLM back in November/December. Terms were essentially the same (i.e. flights had to originate in the USA). I needed to book Delta flights from JFK-FCO, so I just did it on KLM’s website (instead of Delta’s) using my Amex Platinum and boom, I earned the 20k MR points (plus 5x points on the airfare). Just one word of warning: if you have free bags on Delta via the Amex Delta Skymiles credit card, they may hassle you a bit at the airport since you technically booked with KLM. I just flashed the Amex Delta card at the Delta counter and got them to honor the free bags.
Great offer! Too bad they dont sell gift cards! What if I purchase a refundable fare and ask for a refund later? Just wondering =D
