Quick Thoughts

This Coast To Elite status challenge is a great way to quickly earn status with Alaska Airlines as you’d normally need to fly these routes twice as many times in order to earn the respective status levels.

One of the terms is that the offer isn’t valid on free or award travel. That might mean that using a Companion Fare would qualify; if so, this challenge could be a good way for two people to earn Alaska status somewhat cheaply.

I’m currently seeing round trip flights from JFK to LAX from only $237 per person. If both of you have a Companion Fare, you’d both be able to earn MVP status when spending a total of ~$700. MVP status offers a 50% elite miles bonus, flight upgrades on qualifying fares, two free checked bags and more.

The residency and airport restrictions, plus having less than three months to take the flights, limits how useful this promotion will be for some people. If you live in one of the targeted states though, this could be a sweet deal.
