American Airlines has launched an unadvertised sale on AAnytime business class awards, reducing the cost on some flights from 110,000 to 85,000 miles this summer. Be sure to check all your options though, as that might not represent the best use of your miles.
The Deal
- Book business class AAnytime awards to Europe from 85,000 miles this summer on American Airlines.
Key Terms
- Expiry date unknown.
Quick Thoughts
As Lucky at OMaaT notes, business class AAnytime awards usually start at 110,000 miles each way, so this sale is reducing the cost of those by 25,000 miles in some cases.
For example, searching for flights from New York to Prague this summer brings up a handful of days with 85,000 mile availability.
The important thing to remember is that AAnytime awards are significantly more expensive than MileSAAver awards. The reason for this is that AAnytime awards are available without restriction so long as the business class cabin hasn’t sold out.
If there is MileSAAver availability though, you’d definitely be better off booking that kind of award. Looking at the same dates from New York to Prague, there’s a ton of availability at the MileSAAver rate which is almost 30,000 miles less than the cheapest AAnytime awards.
There’s even excellent First class availability on that route, also costing 85,000 miles.
On other routes though, MileSAAver availability won’t be as good as this. 85,000 miles for an AAnytime award might therefore be worth it if the dates you need to travel are fairly restricted and an AAnytime award is your only choice.
Thank you so much! I just called and changed our flight to AMS and saved 103,000 AA miles. We had to move the date up one day and pay the $175 change fee, but it is the exact same flight! The bonus is one extra day in Amsterdam before our Viking Ocean Cruise.

How do you get the old view for AA award availability? The new view is much harder to use, but it keeps defaulting to it.

The Mile SAAver award availability you show above is very misleading as it is showing availability on BA and not just AA (which is very limited). BA has great saver award availability but comes with taxes and fuel surcharges of $1000+ per ticket in some cases.
Indeed. If the dates work, this is a solid enough deal. You can get as many seats as you want, from anywhere in North America, all in domestic F/ int’l J, for 85k with the best available possible routing.
