Quick Thoughts
The landing page for this award sale is listing prices for round-trip flights, but you can get the discounted award pricing for one-way flights too. Domestic flights start at 5,000 miles each way, to/from the Caribbean from 6,500 miles one way, to/from Mexico from 7,500 miles one-way and to/from Asia from 24,000 miles each way.
If you’re interested in visiting Europe, award pricing starts at 21,500 miles one-way with only $5.60 of taxes/fees heading to London, but higher taxes/fees on the return due to Air Passenger Duty in the UK. 21,500 miles from the west coast to Europe on a nonstop flight isn’t bad, although we sometimes see better pricing through programs like Flying Blue.
If you’d like to head Down Under, flights are available from as low as 28,500 miles each way. While that’s a long way to fly in economy, the fact that it’s nonstop might make it more appealing to some than a longer itinerary with a layover somewhere.
You have to book these flights by July 2 and award availability seems somewhat plentiful right now depending on the dates. However, it would still be worth booking sooner rather than later in case availability dries up.
Didn’t Alaska Airlines promise Mileage Plan deals, changing every quarter? I remember a few in April (discounts in economy to Bahamas, Fiji, Tahiti, Maldives), but I haven’t seen anything since.
Yep, the last ones were in April. That was the start of Q2, so hopefully we’ll see new deals on July 1 at the start of Q3, although it could be that they launch new deals anytime from July-September.
