ANA has made a great improvement when booking award flights as they’re now charging only $1 per leg on many routes.

On many ANA-flown routes, if you book a round trip flight, the surcharge will be $2 if flying directly to and from your destination.

ANA RT direct to Tokyo.

The fee seems to be $1 per leg because if you book a round trip with a layover in each direction, the total surcharges will come to $4.

ANA RT with 1 stop each way to Australia

This is a great improvement as it makes some sweet spots even sweeter because the surcharges sometimes came to $200 or so.

[…] Depending on the airline, these costs can run from hundreds to thousands of dollars per ticket. ANA has reduced these fees on many of its flights to just $1, presumably to stimulate interest in booking flights to Japan. ANA is our favorite airline to fly […]

[…] night, Stephen published a post about how ANA has reduced surcharges on many of its own flights to just $1 per leg each way. Spencer Howard from Straight to the Points had invited me to an Instagram Live chat on Monday, […]

Anybody know if this also applies to RTW tickets? That would be insanely awesome.

Greg The Frequent Miler

No, because to fly RTW you will have to include at least some partners. If the partners you choose impose fuel surcharges then you’ll still have to pay that. See this post for more: https://frequentmiler.com/ana-strengths-and-sweet-spots/

Will

Aah, touche. Guess I read Stephen’s post too quickly and assumed it was for all flights, not just NH metal. Still, a welcome improvement to AMC.

Dave

Actually not true. Search SFO-NRT-China round trip, all on ANA. Still seeing high surcharge.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Thanks. I’ve updated the post to say that this is true on many routes rather than implying that it is true on all routes.

Dave

Is this $1 surcharge only applied to NH flight only? Full surcharge is still imposed on United’s China flights.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes, this is only for ANA flights, not partner flights

WR2

I wonder if they will be adjusting fees for already booked award tickets. In any case, I’ll check with them when I inevitably have to call in to delay my trip again.

Dave

I believe ANA will reprice taxes and fees if the ticket has not been used partially, otherwise it will be even exchange.
