The Barclaycard RewardsBoost portal has been a great option for buying American Express gift cards since they previously offered an extra 4 points per dollar (above any rewards from your credit card) for Amex gift cards. Now, however, Amex gift cards no longer appear within the portal. There is no word yet as to whether this is a permanent or temporary change.
In the meantime, two portals still offer 4% cash back (at the time of this writing):
- BeFrugal
- Lucky Rewards

Would you recommend paying the gift card fee instead of using a code to waive it when going through befrugal? I know Barclays pays out even when you use a promo code not found on the site but i have no experience with befrugal. Thanks for the awesome blog!
Personally, I’d take a chance and use a code, but it really depends upon your risk tolerance.
Anyone know if there is an expiration date on either of these? Didnt see anything on the befrugal site. I didnt really plan on buying GCs until early next month but id rather not miss out on the 4%. Thanks
I’m sure it is limited time, but I don’t know when it will end.
Sorry to keep posting, but since it pertains to the first question – I used the Lucky site for the first time a month or so ago (3k card) and the cash back posted to my account today. It was my first time and I sent their “customer service” a question about how it all worked and was pleasantly surprised by their responsiveness to my (probably annoyingly common) question about how/when cash back would post.
They have given me regular updates on the transaction and progress towards cash back posting ever since.
That’s good to hear, thanks
Also, if there is a max cash back, is it “per transaction”, “per month”, “per year”, etc?
Is there a max amount you can do in terms of getting 4% back? I realize there is a max dollar amount for the cards, but as far as getting the cash back, do those sites have a max?
I am a true believer in “pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered” and not going crazy, but I’m just trying to know what I’m working with and have struggled to find any verbiage on maximum refunds, etc.
I don’t think there are any limits from the portals but it’s worth reading each portal’s T&C just in case
Which one would you recommend?
I would go with BeFrugal just because I don’t have experience with Lucky Rewards
