Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?

Follow along here!

As reported by Award Wallet, you can now book at least some Qatar Airways flights with JetBlue TrueBlue points. This launches on the heels of Qatar temporarily enabling redemptions of Qatar Avios on JetBlue last week (which they later took away and brought back at much higher award prices). So far, it looks like one-way flights to Doha cost 34,000 TrueBlue points in economy class or 70,000 TrueBlue points in business class, which both represent very good value for JetBlue points.

The Deal

  • JetBlue TrueBlue members can now book Qatar Airways flights using JetBlue TrueBlue points. Prices vary based on distance and seem to start at 34K in economy or 70K in business class from the US to Doha and then increase based on how far you continue from Doha.
  • Search for and book awards at JetBlue.com

Quick Thoughts

JetBlue TrueBlue points have long been a more or less fixed-value currency. The addition of the ability to book Qatar Airways flights using TrueBlue points based on what appear to be relatively fixed award costs adds a way for TrueBlue members to get outstanding value for their points.

That said, JetBlue isn’t going to offer better value than other currencies like American Airlines miles or British Airways or Qatar Avios (at least on routes loaded thus far). JetBlue is charging the same 70,000 points one-way from the US to Doha in business class that you’ll pay through British Airways or Qatar. Longer itineraries cost more points. JT Genter at Award Wallet has more on example prices on various routes.

Award Wallet reports that not all Qatar Airways routes are yet bookable and JetBlue doesn’t appear to have access to more award space than American Airlines, but this nonetheless adds another way to redeem points for Qatar flights and could be very exciting news for anyone with a lot of JetBlue points.

Are taxes and fees on JB lower than booking with Qatar Avios? Can someone confirm?

cmx

HKG – DOH in F was 100k vs 50k using AA Miles. Relative to that the DOH-JFK pricing is way better, IF you can find any availability.

Joe

thanks for the heads up. i booked a qsuite from jfk to doha for 70k JB miles + $7.95. i missed my chance back in sept when Greg got his, but glad something slipped in and i was able to take advantage
