If you’ve been taking advantage of food delivery apps recently, here’s a way to save a little money on that.
Grubhub is offering free $15 promo cards when buying $75 gift cards – a bonus of 20%.
The Deal
- Buy $75 Grubhub gift card & get $15 promo card free.
- Direct link to offer.
Key Terms
- Expires May 5, 2020 or while supplies last.
- Limit 3 redemptions per customer per email address.
- Bonus cards expire on June 30, 2020.
Quick Thoughts
The most important thing to be aware of with this deal is that the $15 cards aren’t regular gift cards. Instead, they’re promo cards which expire on June 30, 2020. You’ll therefore need to ensure those are redeemed within the next couple of months so that they don’t go to waste.
I’m not sure how sophisticated Grubhub’s system is, so I don’t know if they’d automatically deduct the expiring cards first, or if they’re deducted in the order in which they’re loaded to your account. Just to play safe, I’d suggest loading the $15 card(s) to your account and redeeming those, then adding the $75 gift card(s).
Update 4/28/20: When checking out, you can choose which promo card(s) / gift card(s) you want to redeem, so it doesn’t matter which order you add the cards in after all. (Thanks to reader Dientse for the heads up about this feature.)
This deal is due to be around until May 5, but given the current situation it wouldn’t surprise me if they sold out sooner than that. It’d therefore be worth buying these sooner rather than later if you’re interested.
If DoorDash is more your thing and you’ve already maxed out the $60 CSR benefit, you can save 10% on their gift cards at Kroger online (you don’t have to have any of their stores near you) and in the Samsung Pay app.
As usual with bonuses, note that a 20% bonus card is equivalent to a 16.7% discount of your checkout price. (You get $90 of gift cards for $75 payment.) Useful to normalize this for comparison to other deals.
I would fully expect that this purchase bonus of gift cards would be stackable when you see promotions such as $10 off $30 for specific group of restaurants, or restaurants with specific individual offers like free entree with $30 purchase. So on the Uber Eats platform, for example, I’ve been using Uber gift cards purchased with Amazon.com discounts based on using minimal amount of AMEX, Citibank, Chase, Discover points to activate the promotional discount, choosing restaurants that have promotions like specific 2-for-1 entrees, and finally stacking with a Uber user specific but platform wide percentage discount if you meet minimum purchase threshold. (I’ve been getting 20% offer multiple weekends in a row, although only 10% this past weekend.)
Thanks Stephen!
I loaded 2X 75 and took it to pay but it never showed the 15$ gcs. And landing page doesn’t mention it either.
I’ve just updated the link in the post as it doesn’t look like it was going to the correct landing page.
Stephen, does a GH gc purch get a $10 dining cr with amex gold? Thx
asking the right questions
Shouldn’t because it’s processed by cashstar
Jimmy’s correct – it won’t trigger the dining credit as payment in processed by CashStar.
