Chase isn’t the only one offering a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin this month – Capital One is now doing the same.
The Deal
- Get a 30% bonus when transferring Capital One miles to Virgin Red.
Key Terms
- Expires October 31, 2022.
Quick Thoughts
Although both Chase and Capital One are now offering a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin, there’s a slight difference between them in how it’s done. Chase transfers Ultimate Rewards to your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account, whereas Capital One transfers your miles to Virgin Red.
Virgin Red is Virgin’s all-encompassing loyalty program covering all their services. Points in Virgin Red can be used for award flights booked through Flying Club, while your existing Virgin Atlantic Flying Club mileage balance will also show up as Virgin Red points once you’ve linked your Virgin Red and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club accounts.
It’s straightforward linking your accounts. Unless you’ve already created a Virgin Red account in the last few months, you’ll need to create one here. I did that last night and it immediately prompted me to link my Flying Club account. Creating the Virgin Red account and linking my Flying Club account didn’t take much more than a minute, so it’s not a lot of hassle.
As for this transfer bonus, the 30% bonus means you’ll only need to transfer 39,000 Capital One miles to book Delta One one-way to Europe when there’s availability among other Virgin Atlantic sweet spots.
Does anyone else get a “Please verify your membership #” when you try to transfer your miles? It does it as soon as I type the first number and I know I’ve typed the right account number.
Update: Looks like the “membership #” is the four word phrase under Virgin Red ID, not the Flying Club member
[…] Capital One has a 30% mileage transfer bonus to Virgin Red through the end of the month (Virgin Red can be linked to Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club and the miles then work for either). Sweet spots:– Business class to and from Europe– ANA first or business class to and from Japan(Thanks to FM) […]
I need to create a flying club and a Virgin Red account! I was going to transfer UR points to Virgin but since I have 290k Capital One miles and only 180k UR points I think I will be transferring to Red instead! Glad I saw this post today! Did Capital One just announce this today?
I think they launched it in the last day or two.
Is the transfer from Cap One instant? Also have a general question about whether Cap One allows main holder to transfer points to another authorized user’s rewards account.
Many transfers from Capital One are instant, but not always (e.g. Cathay Pacific can take 4-5 days). I’m afraid we don’t appear to have any data points on Virgin.
As for transferring points, you can transfer them to another Capital One cardholder https://frequentmiler.com/share-capital-one-miles-with-others/
Did a transfer yesterday. It all posted instantly – both the base points and the 30% bonus points (as opposed to earlier reports around the web that the 30% bonus only posts a day or two later). Flight already booked and ticketed, life is good.
Can you then transfer Virgin Red points to another airline for domestic flights?
You can use Virgin Red to book partner awards via Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (e.g. for flights on Delta). You can’t transfer Virgin Red points to other airline programs though.
