Capital One is now offering an increased welcome offer for a $300 Capital One Travel credit on top of 75,000 miles for new Venture Rewards cardholders…if they apply via a referral.
The problem with this (and many other Capital One referrals) is that the offer takes you to Capital One’s pre-approval tool. Once you go through the process, many people find that they are targeted for a different card or allowed to apply for the Venture card at the lesser 75K offer.
Essentially, although the referral link says $75K + $300, whether or not you’re actually allowed to apply for it is based on Capital One’s computers, so it’s really a targeted offer. Because of that, we’re not using it as the featured offer on our Best Offers Page, but instead listing it as an alternate offer.

Quick Thoughts
This is a very compelling offer from Capital One…if you’re targeted for it. Earning 75,000 transferable miles is already a good offer, so getting an additional $300 of credit to use on Capital One Travel during your first year of card membership is excellent.
That $300 travel credit can only be used for hotels or vacation rentals. If your plan is to book a hotel stay, be aware that the hotel chain will regard the booking as an Online Travel Agency (OTA) booking, and so you likely won’t earn points, receive status benefits, etc.

Can a venture x referral work?
I got approved for this offer today, I did the pre approval check before applying.
The $300 travel credit can only be used on “hotels and vacation rentals”
Thanks, flights shouldn’t have been in there. Fixed.
