The Deal

  • Chase Freedom’s 5x categories for 2019 Q2 (on up to $1500 in purchases from April through June) will be grocery stores and home improvement stores
  • Direct link to activate (note that activation goes live 3/15/19

Quick Thoughts

This one should be an easy one to max out. If you normally go three months without spending $1500 at the grocery store, tell me how. In all seriousness, most grocery stores sell a wide range of gift cards, so most people won’t have trouble hitting $1500 between April and June. It’s also the right time of year for home improvement projects — again, this should be an easy one.

Remember that this will go live for activation tomorrow, March 15, 2019.

With 4x Amex Gold (net $30AF with the $100 airline credit and $120 Grubhub) I’m wondering if I should bother switching to Freedom.

Does Instacart delivery from a grocery store post as grocery store for this offer?

Sue

Perfect for me. Just bought a house and we have some renovation that needs to happen. And grocery stores are always easy.

Ed. C

Great. Another quarter where I won’t have to carry my Freedom card. Only grocery stores where I live are WMT Supercenters and WMT Neighborhood Markets. Neither one will trigger the bonus even though the Neighborhood Markets code as grocery stores on the VISA Supplier Locator.

Thanks Chase.

Frank Doyle

Not sure how you are blaming Chase for where you choose to live that apparently has no regular grocery stores.

Ed. C

Well Frank, it’s like this. Chase is the one that excludes WMT and Target from their grocery categories even though, as you apparently are unaware, WMT Neighborhood Markets ARE what you refer to as “regular grocery stores”. Within 10 miles of my house there are 6 WMT Supercenters and 13 WMT Neighborhood Markets. Sure, there’s a couple of “regular grocery stores” but they are so expensive I’m not going to shop there just for a few Ultimate Rewards points.

Frank Doyle

I still don’t see how this is Chase’s fault if YOU don’t want to shop at the “regular grocery stores.”

Ed. C

I DO shop at “regular grocery stores”. As I stated TWICE before, they are called WMT Neighborhood Markets and THEY ARE coded as grocery stores by the VISA Supplier Locator, but not by Chase, which Chase says you can use to determine a retailer category.

Frank Doyle

Shut up and move then.

KimoC

That sucks that WMT neighborhood stores don’t code as grocery stores because unlike the super centers they only sell groceries. My understanding is that is more merchant based as to how they code their business category and WMT probably codes all its stores the same super center or not.
