Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card has a limited time Turo benefit; $30 per rental, up to $180 in next 12 months

When Citi launched the new AAdvantage Globe card last week, one of its benefits included a $30 statement credit for Turo rentals, with a limit of $240 back per year.

Citi has now expanded its Turo benefit to the AAdvantage Platinum Select card. That too offers $30 back per rental, although it has a lower limit of $180 and it’s only available for a limited time.

Quick Thoughts

While the Turo benefit on the new Globe card is an ongoing benefit, this Platinum Select benefit is only available for rentals paid for by October 18, 2026. I believe Turo takes payment straight away, so it should be possible to book further Turo rentals far into the future before this benefit expires in October next year.

In case you’re not familiar with Turo, it’s like Airbnb for cars. Car owners rent out their cars like it’s a rental car, and you can rent it without the risk that faulty AI will claim that you’ve damaged it. Renters review the car owners/experience, so you have an idea before booking as to whether the car listing is accurate, how easy pickup will be, etc.

My wife and I have used Turo several times where it made sense, either because it was cheaper to rent via Turo than a regular car rental agency, and/or because we wanted to rent a specific type of car. For example, my wife and her friend had a joint 40th birthday trip a few years ago out to California. They wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible and it was much cheaper through Turo than via a regular car rental.

There are a few important things to be aware of though. First, Turo rentals aren’t eligible for car rental coverage on credit cards that offer that as a benefit. Turo does have different insurance options of varying costs when booking, so you can still ensure that you’re covered; it’s just not free.

Another thing to consider is convenience. Seeing as Turo rentals are privately owned, you’ll often pick them up from outside the owner’s home or a public parking lot. If you’re flying into an airport, that might therefore mean that you have to get an Uber/Lyft/taxi to wherever the Turo rental is located, adding a little extra hassle, time, and money to the process. That’s not always the case though. When visiting Hawaii last year, we booked a car through Turo for a few days on the Big Island. We provided our flight details and they ensured that the car was left in the parking lot at the front of the airport, making it much easier to pick up.

These $30 credits also look like they should stack with Citi Offers for Turo. For example, my wife currently has a Citi Offer giving $25 back on a $150+ Turo rental. If you have the same offer on a Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card, I’d expect that you’d get back both the $30 statement credit from this new benefit and the $25 from the Citi Offer.

Although Turo isn’t available on shopping portals, you can still earn additional rewards on a rental courtesy of their partnership with both Delta and United. Due to the way that the earning rates for the two partnerships are set up, Delta is generally the better option for cheaper rentals due to it offering a lump sum reward per rental, while United is better for more expensive rentals as you earn based on how much you spend per rental.

Not sure how cheap you can get a Turo for but this is interesting in that there is no minimum for the credit. Maybe it’s possible in very cheap locales to get a nearly free rental car for a day this way, say for a day trip where you otherwise would not be renting a vehicle?

The Citi Offers stack would be a good one to take advantage of otherwise, though those almost always have a minimum spend of $150 required.
