Citi AT&T Points Plus card is intriguing with new monthly credits and $250 welcome offer

16

Citi and AT&T have increased the welcome offer and added new statement credits to the AT&T Points Plus card, making it a surprisingly compelling option, especially for AT&T customers.

The new welcome bonus is $250 after only $500 in spend, and there are new $20 statement credits for each billing cycle that the cardholders spend $1,000 or more. All of that is in addition to a $ 10-per-line discount each month when you use the card to pay your AT&T bill.

Not bad for a no-annual-fee card that also earns 3x Citi Thank You Points on fuel purchases and 2x at grocery stores.

Quick Thoughts

The $20 in statement credits on $1,000 in purchases doesn’t seem like much, but it’s actually an EXTRA 2% on all monthly spending, if you stay close to $1,000. In addition to the normal earnings on the card, that’s very good.

It’s important to note that this card earns Citi Thank You Points (TYP), not cash back, and has access to the full spectrum of Citi transfer partners, though at a lower transfer ratio, unless you have a card with an annual fee, like the Citi Strata Premier or Strata Elite.

Assuming you have one of those “premium” cards, we value Citi Thank You Points at ~1.5 cents each. Provided you keep your monthly bills as close to $1,000 as possible, that means that this card can earn:

  • 3x Thank You Points + 2% cash back on gas (total return: ~6.5%)
  • 2x TYP + 2% cash back on grocery (total return: ~5%)
  • 2x TYP + 2% cash back on AT&T purchases + $10 per line discount (total return: ~5%+)
  • 1x TYP + 2% cash back everywhere else (total return: ~3.5%)

While it does require some intentionality to maximize, that’s a pretty darn good setup for a no-annual-fee card, especially if you’re an AT&T customer, since using your credit card would normally invalidate autopay discounts. There’s no foreign transaction fee, so it’s also a reasonable card to use internationally.

If I were an AT&T customer, this would be a no-brainer, and it’s worth considering for anyone else who wants a good return on gas and groceries and doesn’t mind keeping an eye on their monthly spend.

I can confirm that this is a waste of 5/24 spot as the $10 internet/line discounts are just the normal autopay/paperless discount and do not stack. Ugh. so mad

Joseph Giorgianni

One thing that appears to be missing that I find important is cell phone insurance.

Jeff

Can anybody clarify the $10/line discount? We have 5 lines so $50/month off my bill? Or the $10/line just offsets the auto-pay discount or some other discount “so you can pay with your card and get the AT&T multiplier but actually the $10/line is just a wash?”

If it ends up being an either-or it’s a lot less compelling – if it’s an EXTRA $10 per line discount I’d be crazy not to get this card!

Goosh

Same. We have 5 lines. Soon to be 6. Would be good to get clarity on the $10/line discount.

Yeah, it would be nice if the people pimping/selling the card researched and included those details in their posts when trying to shill to their readers. Or at least followed up and found out the answer to post for everyone’s knowledge.

Jeff

I understand your reaction to the “pimping” dig, and I hadn’t planned to jump in here, but since you are apparently actually reading this I’ll just say (1) I am not the person who made that accusation and also (2) It’s extremely frustrating that FM posts feel like they are published and the authors immediately cut ties and disappear with next to no sense of obligation or desire to interact with anybody who asks genuine questions. Even a simple “that’s a good question I’m not sure” would be better than just ghosting the audience.

Obviously *you* have at least taken the time to read and respond to this post almost a week later, though not really to my original question which seems pretty central to me one of the primary benefits of the card – but at least you read it and being totally honest I’m surprised. Please take this for the constructive feedback (with a little bit of venting) it is intended as – I rarely try to interact with FM posts anymore because the comments sections tend to be a graveyard of unanswered and unacknowledged questions that FM (as a group) seems mostly unconcerned about – it would be nice if that changed, or if you don’t want to interact with comments then turn them off or direct the readers to comment in whatever location you guys actually prefer to interact (FB Group or YouTube comments or whatever).

I had a different blog actually respond to a question about a large posted bonus opportunity right before Christmas and because of that interaction was able to get the $2k bonus and also enjoy my holiday with my family vs running around trying to put the missing pieces together. It doesn’t feel like an unreasonable expectation that an author publishing an article with a comments section might read and respond to questions about what they’re encouraging people to participate in (whether they are receiving a commission or not). It’s not like there are 2,500 comments here building up faster than they can be responded to.

As far as i understand it this discount is not above and beyond standard autopay paperless discounts. So nothing to see on that point. I don’t dispute trading off 0.625% for one TYP is a great deal (No BofA status required)

Alben

I get the AT&T paperless and autopay discounts and get 5% Chase points by using my old business Chase Ultimate Rewards card. Have to pay the AT&T account without logging in. So the one drawback with my setup is that I have to manually make the payment.

Larry

For those of us being transitioned from Barclays AA cards, is it possible to product change from the AA mile up card to this AT&T card and then maybe to a custom cash?

Art

I changed my mile up card to the AT&T card Dec. 2025 and will try to change to custom cash in the future.

Dave Hanson

Agree with Beechy that this is now a great candidate for a product trade for those of us with extra Citi cards.

Thanks to Eli for their data point below Citi elite -> ATT. Would welcome other data points. I’m considering custom cash and Doublecash as product trade sources.

Ahmed

Does it offer insurance protection for handset?

Beechy

Is it possible to product change from a Citi Strata Premier card to the AT&T card? Have both Citi Strata Elite and Citi Strata Premier and don’t need both. Thanks

Eli

I PC’d from a Strata Elite to an ATT card a few months back. But Citi PC options change a lot so you’ll just have to ask them
