Is this purposely misleading clickbait?: “Citi cancels 5X earning”?
The 5X earning has not been canceled. The card has not been canceled. Those of us who have the card(s) will experience zero changes. Product changes to this card can still be made. The only official change is that no new applications will be accepted.
From the CCC website: “Citi is no longer accepting applications for the Citi Custom Cash® Card product as of May 28, 2026. If you are interested in a cash back card, you are welcome to apply for the Citi Double Cash® Card. Existing Citi Custom Cash cardmembers are not impacted and can continue to use their card and enjoy its benefits.”
As a data point, I was able to PC a Double Cash to a Custom Cash yesterday evening via Chat. The process was easy, and the change was immediately reflected in my online account, with new cards shipping soon.
I have and still use Custom Cash for the 5x up to $500 for the categories. It’s akin to Chase Freedom 5x category, but more flexible; and, Citi’s transfers to AA are a nice improvement. It’s a shame that they’re letting it go, because those of us who actually took advantage of it were pleased. *sigh*
Wish FM reached out to Citi and asked whether CCC would go the way of Rewards+ or Prestige. Or that Citi reached out to FM. https://frequentmiler.com/citi-strata-elite-qa/ has the quotes “The official word we’ve received from Citi” and “a Citi employee reached out to tell me” and “I asked our official contact…” so we know there has been communication lol.
We don’t have a Citi contact that we’d think could answer these questions. Our contact for the Strata Elite gave us some incorrect info, even after we pushed back about it.
