Quick Thoughts
Even a reduction to 148,000 SkyMiles round trip doesn’t make this a sweet spot to Europe, but it could prove to be a useful option if you’d like to travel to Europe this fall and have SkyMiles to burn.
Delta flash sales sometimes work even better than advertised and that’s the case here in some ways, but not others. Unfortunately it appears that the round trip requirement is enforced. For example, a one way flight from Los Angeles to Stockholm costs 375,000(!) SkyMiles one way in Delta One, but the price drops to 148,000 when booking it as a round trip award.
The eligible travel dates are more generous than advertised though, at least in some cases. For example, on the landing page for this deal linked to above, that Los Angeles to Stockholm route is listed as only being valid for travel from October 5-11, 2022. However, the Flexible Dates calendar shows many date combinations available for only 148,000 SkyMiles, with the Price Calendar showing availability on that route at that pricing level as far back as September 18.
The round trip requirement isn’t quite as strict as it might appear, at least for cities that have at least two European destinations eligible for this award sale. For example, you can get the 148,000 round trip pricing from Austin to both Frankfurt and Stockholm. If you’d be interested in visiting both those cities, you can book a multi-city itinerary flying from Austin to one of those cities and back to Austin from the other city and have it still price out at 148,000 SkyMiles.
It’s therefore worth checking different date and city combinations as it’s likely that there are other opportunities to be had. You’ll want to book quickly though because this award sale is due to end tonight (June 29), although perhaps that’s another aspect of this sale that’ll turn out to be more generous than expected.
In my experience, speaking as a DL hub captive, FB almost always has better regular prices than DL’s “sales.” That is especially true for flights to EU.
This promo is such a joke. My only option out of AUS was a 2-week span in late September, with connections, so I’d get to “enjoy” DeltaOne for 7-8 hours while dealing with the quagmire of likely delayed connecting flights.
And now that wonderful deal is gone, HOU is next worst deal haha.
It’s nuts that DL can’t even give people a few days to book these, with a promotion in the middle of the work week for most. Comes across as a skypesos gimmick, with sale prices close to what a regular saver should cost in the first place.
I agree that it would be nice if the saver prices were this amount normally. However, the one big difference is that there is actual availability. When I have looked for saver awards with AA and United recently, I am not finding much of anything. Looking at weeks of vacation I have this fall, I did find several options using this flash sale, and nothing reasonable with UA or AA.
