Delta has been pumping out the flash sales on award flights recently and they’re back with another. To celebrate 10 years since they joined with Northwest Airlines, they’re offering round trip award flights from 10,000 miles.

These Delta flash sales often require that you book round trip flights in order to get such low redemptions, but with this sale you can also get one way flights from 5,000 SkyMiles.

Delta 10 Year Thank You Sale

  • Direct link.

Key Terms

  • Book by October 31, 2018 at 11:59pm ET
  • Travel between November 28, 2018 through March 7, 2019

Quick Thoughts

There seems to be some good availability with this flash sale. For example, this is what round trip availability looks like for Atlanta to Boston in January:

Delta ATL-BOS RT in January 2019
ATL-BOS RT in January 2019

When Delta launches these flash sales, you often need to book round trip flights in order to get the lower award pricing. With this sale though, booking a round trip doesn’t appear to be necessary on some – or possibly all – routes.

When switching the above Atlanta to Boston search from round trip to one way, there was availability at the 5,000 SkyMiles level:

Delta ATL-BOS OW in January 2019
ATL-BOS OW in January 2019

I got the same kind of results when searching in the opposite direction:

Delta BOS-ATL OW in January 2019
BOS-ATL OW in January 2019

In case you’re wondering about the 71,000 mile pricing above, Atlanta is hosting the 2019 Super Bowl that weekend. I guess Delta is assuming the Patriots might make it and so they’ve jacked up the cost of award flights.

Be sure to check paid fares before booking award tickets though as you might prefer to pay cash and earn miles. Here’s what the pricing looks like for a one way ticket from Boston to Atlanta on those same dates. In many cases, you’d be redeeming at 1.33cpp:

Delta BOS-ATL OW paid fares in January 2019
BOS-ATL OW paid fares in January 2019

Delta has listed 25 city pairs on their landing page, but it doesn’t look like the sale is necessarily restricted to those cities. Doing a round trip search for Norfolk to LaGuardia showed a handful of dates available for 10,000 SkyMiles.

Delta ORF-LGA RT in January 2019
ORF-LGA RT in January 2019

This sale is due to end on October 31, although these flash sales often seem to extend beyond the stated end date. That said, if you know your dates and there’s availability, it’d probably be worth booking ASAP in case availability disappears or the price jumps on November 1.
