With this sale, you can fly to Australia, New Zealand, or the South Pacific for just 20K each way in economy class with a free stopover on a one-way award. Quick Thoughts
Long time readers know that my blood runs tropical and my brain is almost always half on a beach somewhere. After making it to the South Pacific in economy class during the 40K to Far Away Challenge last year, I know that I haven’t become so spoiled by the ability to redeem for premium-cabin travel as to be unwilling to fly far for cheap with the right deal. This would be that “fly far for cheap” kind of deal. Getting to the South Pacific or Down Under for 20K miles one-way from North America is a steal, especially when you consider the chance to have a free stopover in Fiji on your way to Australia, New Zealand, or a number of pacific islands.
This discount is reflected at the time of booking. All you have to do is book between now and February 29, 2020 and you should see the following sale rates:
As you can see, the discount on business class from North America is about 27% (15K off of the usual 55K price) and the discount on economy class is the full 50% off from North America at 20K each way.
Unfortunately, business class on Fiji Airways is hard to come by. On the other hand, this deal is still fantastic in economy class, especially if you have the time and interest to visit multiple destinations with a free stopover in Fiji.
Keep in mind that Alaska allows you to combine flights on Alaska Airlines with one partner airline — so you could theoretically start anywhere in the US that is served by Alaska Airlines and connect to the Fiji Airways flights. For example, here’s a look at New York to Auckland with a stop in Fiji for about a week on the way:
Don’t get too excited about the business class availability you see there as the blue seats indicated mixed-cabin awards. In each of those cases, the long flight from Los Angeles to Fiji is in economy class.
You can easily search via the Alaska Airlines website. If you want to search with a stopover, just click the link on the home page that says “All search options” in order to choose multi-city and enter your desired cities and dates.
Overall, this is a terrific opportunity to get really far away and back on not a lot of miles.

I can easily find eco to Australia or new Zealand with stopover in Fiji but finding a flight back is difficult. Anyone had any luck? I’m guessing the best way is to do 2 desperate one way
