Entertainment.com has 2020 Entertainment books on sale for $7 each through 9am Eastern on May 11, 2020. My initial reaction was that I’m surprised they aren’t paying people to take them at a time when we’re mostly stuck at home. That said, at the low cost of admission, it wouldn’t be hard to come out ahead on one of these books even if you only use one or two coupons this year, especially when you stack it with 20% cash back from a shopping portal.
The Deal
- Entertainment.com is offering all of their physical Entertainment books for $7 plus free shipping. Stack with a shopping portal for 20% back.
- Direct link to Entertainment books for $7
- See best portal rates at Cashbackmonitor.com (there are a couple offering 20% back at the time of writing)
Key Terms
- All sales are final. No refunds / returns
- Sale price valid until 5/11/20 at 9am Eastern
- Note that shopping portal rates can change at any time
Quick Thoughts
Like I said, this deal initially looked silly to me. However, when I gave it a minute of thought, I realized that it’s probably still a solid deal for many people. Though I know the risk of contracting COVID-19 from food is said to be very low, I haven’t even gotten take-out or delivery since early March, opting instead to cook at home. I am therefore itching all the more for that first pizza or Subway sub or really just about anything that I didn’t cook at home. While I’ll try to show some restraint, I imagine that whenever I get back to getting take out I’ll be extra ready to get it more often. A few coupons might not hurt.
That said, this isn’t the cheapest we’ve seen these books. Stephen wrote a post in May of 2018 when these were on sale for $4 and you could stack for a net cost of $3.20. A couple of months later they were again available on sale, ironically for a bit more money (odd to sell them for more later in the year) $5 with a net cost of $4.
As noted at the top, you can currently get 20% back from a shopping portal (both TopCashBack and Simply Best Coupons are offering that rate at the time of writing), good for $1.40 back (a net cost of $5.60 per book). Note that during the buying process, Entertainment.com offers the chance to save 25% on your purchase today by enrolling in Auto Renewal. I don’t think you want to do this. First, you’ll get charged nearly full retail price on renewal ($5 less than the full price, but more than you’d pay for a book if you wait for a deal like this). Further, my read of the terms indicates that I think you’ll get charged $5 for terminating your subscription before it is renewed — meaning that you won’t save anything by subscribing to the auto-renewal.

Based on their model of advertising I’m surprised they aren’t giving them away for free at this point.
