The standard award cost for economy flights between the US and Europe when booked with Flying Blue miles used to be 20,000 miles each way. A 25% discount used to therefore result in pricing being reduced to 15,000 miles each way. Unfortunately there was a devaluation a few weeks ago which raised award costs by 15%-25%. On economy flights to Europe, there was a 25% increase which means the standard award pricing is now 25,000 miles each way. The 25% discount from Flying Blue Promo Rewards therefore drops that to 18,750 miles.
That pricing still isn’t too bad, but bear in mind you’ll also have taxes and fees that aren’t extortionately high, but also aren’t de minimis. For example, if booking a flight from Houston to Amsterdam you’re looking at 18,750 miles and $95.10 in taxes and fees.
Overall, availability at the 18,750 level appears to be good. On that Houston to Amsterdam route, about 3/4 of days in February, March, April and July are available at that rate, but June has zero availability and May only has one day bookable at that discounted rate. Different city pairings will have different availability though, so it’s worth checking your options.
