Quick Thoughts
The lowest pricing is listed as being 11,250 miles one way from Chicago and Montreal. When doing an initial search from Chicago O’Hare to Amsterdam, there were lots of discounted award tickets bookable, but at a slightly higher rate of 12,750 miles one way. That said, pricing tends to jump around a bit with Promo Rewards depending on which cities you’re flying in and/or out of, so I imagine there are other cities in Europe where you can book economy awards at that lower price of 11,250 miles.
It’s strange, but Flying Blue doesn’t do a great job with selling these Promo Rewards deals. That’s because they only list the economy pricing and, in some cases this month, premium economy pricing. The reason it’s strange is because they’re also discounting business class award fares too. As you might expect, there’s far less availability in business class, but it is there depending on how flexible you are with your dates. For example, from Chicago to Amsterdam there are only a few dates in October and November, but plenty in January.
As a reminder, to get the calendar view shown in the screenshots above, leave the date blank when doing an award search and it’ll display the pricing by month. The downside is that for some reason the pricing often seems to be off by a day. As a result, if you click through and you don’t see the lower pricing you’re expecting, check the day before and/or after and it’ll likely show up there.
There’s a new Air France/KLM Amex Offer giving 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when spending $1,000+. That’s only valid on flights originating from the US, but if you’re booking one way awards from the US for a few of you, the associated taxes and fees could well end up costing $1,000 or more which should trigger the bonus points from the Amex Offer.
