The latest set of Flying Blue Promo Rewards is out for September 2022 and it’s even better than it appears at first glance. The list suggests you can fly to Europe from four US cities for less in economy and from one city for less in business, but discounted business class award pricing is available from more than just Austin.

The Deal

  • Save 25% when booking award flights with Air France/KLM Flying Blue between the following US cities and Europe:
    • New York
    • Chicago
    • Los Angeles
    • Seattle
    • Austin
  • Direct link to offer.

Key Terms

  • Book by September 30, 2022.
  • Valid on flights from September 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023.

Quick Thoughts

As you can see from the screenshot above, Flying Blue’s website makes it look like the first four cities listed only have economy awards on sale seeing as they’re listed as starting from 11,250 to 22,125 miles depending on which city you’re flying in and/or out of. Austin is therefore the only city that initially appears as being eligible for discounted business class award flights because those flights start at 51,000 miles.

However, Flying Blue is underselling this award sale. While discounted economy tickets are indeed available from 11,250 miles, what that doesn’t tell you is that at least some of these cities also have discounted business class award flights available.

For example, let’s say you want to fly from Los Angeles to Paris. That can be had for 18,000 miles + $60.20 in economy, with a number of different direct options on some days.

Flying Blue LAX-CDG economy

Discounted business class award pricing is harder to find out of LAX, but it is there depending on which city you want to fly to/from and if you have any flexibility on dates. For example, Los Angeles to Madrid via Paris can be had for 50,250 miles + $206.70 in late November, with availability for two people on that particular date.

What makes this latest sale even better is that Amex launched a dozen new transfer bonuses yesterday which includes a 25% bonus to Flying Blue. With economy awards starting at 11,250 miles, you might only need to transfer 9,000 Membership Rewards per person. The Los Angeles to Paris flight in economy shown above would require 15,000 Membership Rewards, while the business class flight from Los Angeles to Madrid in business class would only need 41,000 Membership Rewards transferred.

That’s a great deal if you can find availability. If you have any plans to visit Europe in the next 6 months and want to take advantage of these Promo Rewards, it’d be worth searching and booking ASAP because availability in both economy and business class is already scarce on many routes.

AF’s website is pretty wonky — it prices award travel differently each time you search! Has anyone found a good economy deal BACK to the USA? It seems like the best I can do is 11,250 miles from some cities in France and AMS plus about $130 in taxes/fees. Decent, but not extraordinary for non-summer travel.

Is anyone concerned about the fact that according to the american express website, reward point transfers to flying blue can take up to 4 working days? Is this indeed the case? If so, should we perhaps forego the lucrative transfer bonus and instead go with the sure thing of instant transfers from Chase UR to Flying Blue miles?

Ben

I transferred points from Amex to Flying Blue twice last week and they were instant.

Frank

2nd DP, I also transferred MR to Flying Blue this week and it was instant.

David

12 current transfer bonuses and all of them Amex. It’s been a couple of months for any good Chase transfer bonuses. Crossing my fingers they get a good one in October.
