I was at Publix yesterday and saw an advertisement that caught my eye: get a free $10 Publix gift card when you get your flu shot at Publix. Perhaps this is something that varies with state law, but I’ve never seen a similar offer in my home area. My local Walgreen’s was advertising the fact that there is a $0 copay with most insurances — which turned out to be true with mine (unfortunately, perhaps, as I’d have been happy to have taken $10 in groceries instead).
Quick Thoughts
I’m no medical professional and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the flu (knock on wood), but with a baby at home I’m not willing to take any chances. I hate needles, but I got my shot this year and lived to tell the tale. I just wish I’d have gotten ten bucks in groceries to do it.
The sign indicates that restrictions apply, but I didn’t see what those restrictions were. If you’re already passing by Publix, it wouldn’t hurt to look for a sign near the pharmacy – at least not any more than a needle in the arm.

Try to match up with monthly special of buy $50 groceries and get $50 gas card for &40.
Use gift cards to pay part of bill, cc for remainder. If buy shell and have IHG cc can also get 6 cents off shell gas when u pump.
Don’t forget bogo items too.
Thrifty/Rite-Aid give a free ice cream cone with each flu shot. I get one per week!
Even with the giftcard the shot will be $0 since most insurance companies will gladly pay for preventative things like a flu shot.
Let’s churn this and get a flu shot from every Publix & CVS in town!!!
Your first shot will be covered by your insurance company, you’d pay $20-$25 for each subsequent shot. If my math is correct you’re losing money to get those gift cards 😉
Target / CVS pharmacy will give you a $5 off of $25 coupon if you get the flu shot from them.
I would be curious what pharmacies are getting from the drug companies for per flu shot, as every pharmacy is heavily promoting the flu shot.
Safeway grocery in Oregon City, OR gives a 10% coupon for a future visit. Good for about 90 days. Shot is free of course.
I did this last week in Atlanta, GA. They will want to see your insurance card for billing purposes. You fill out a form, get your shot, and they give you a $10 gift card. Easy!
I love it. I’ve been telling the GF for the past two months that I’m not getting a flu shot ’til someone pays me for it. I donno what the economics are here, but pharmacies are clearly making money on flu shots – clearly making more than $10 in fact. Just like with online services, *I* am the product here, and I intend to get paid! :-0
This is available in Florida. Easy process, done in 5 minutes. I have Medicare.
I asked and promotion runs through the “flu season”. Last year they had same deal but ended in October.
