A member of our Frequent Miler Insiders has pointed out a deal that could be worth it for anyone who either books activities / tours and/or books hotels through an online travel agency: Target Circle (which is free to join) is offering Tripavisor Plus free for 1 year. Normally $99, the TripAdvisor Plus membership should get you access to discounted rates among other things. The member is set to not auto-renew by default, so you don’t even have to worry about this renewing and getting charged a year from now, so it seems like a very good deal to me.

The Deal

  • Target Circle members can redeem an offer in the Target app for Tripadvisor Plus free for 1 year (a $99 value and the membership is not set to auto-renew)

Key Terms

  • Offer expires 9/5/23
  • Available in the Target App under Target Circle only
  • You must enter a credit card number at TripAdvisor, but terms clearly indicate that membership is not set to auto-renew.

Quick Thoughts

I haven’t yet dug deeply enough into this to be able to compare against prices for booking things elsewhere, but given that this is a freebie and it isn’t set to auto-renew, there seemed to be no risk for signing up.

I haven’t personally booked activities or hotels through TripAdvisor, though I’ve been tempted thanks to great targeted cash back rates that I’ve seen through Capital One Shopping. I am sometimes seeing rates as high as 30% back for TripAdvisor. If this free Plus membership unlocks better pricing and I can stack with a portal, there is at least the potential for savings to be significant.

Note that I didn’t find it intuitive to find this offer in the target app. You’ll first need to go to the home tab and tap on the “Target Circle Offers” section.

Then you have to choose the “Browse all” tab and look just below the categories for the “Target Circle Partners” section and tap “learn more”.

That brings you to a list of partner offers. I had to scroll all the way to the bottom to find the TripAdvisor Plus deal.

Once you get there, just tap the offer and you’ll get a “Redeem now” button. That brings you to TripAdvisor and auto-populates a code that takes $99 off the first year, dropping the cost to $0. You still have to enter a credit card number, but at the bottom before you enroll it clearly says that your membership will not be set to auto-renew and will end a year from now.

It took me longer to find the offer than anything else — once you know where to find it, this should take 2 minutes to do if you already have the Target app. Hopefully that two minutes can save you some money on travel within the next year.

Get the free code from Target, but then sign up via Rakuten affiliate link for 750 MR and enter the code to waive the fee: https://www.rakuten.com/tripadvisorplus.com

Thanks for the idea. Has this paid out before? It’s a $0 purchase total so they may ignore it.

It would be great if “any deals” with this could be posted. I signed up but I haven’t found anything useful so far.

In 2021 we used trip advisor plus for a safari, and stayed at Hoyo Hoyo inside Kruger national park. It was all inclusive of food, alcohol, and game drives. It was only $357 a night which was heavily discounted from the online rates. All other lodges inside the park were way more expensive.

I can confirm this stacks with Topcashback, as I was paid out for a multi day tour booked with the 10% off from this target offer. Rakuten was showing an exclusion at the time but tcb wasn’t so used that.

The same offer is on the regular Target website — not just the appl.

Not showing up under Partners for me. Direct link by any chance?

I just did it right now. Try this direct link https://www.target.com/circle/partners?flyout=1019

I just did it on regular Target desktop website (too lazy to download the Target app on my phone anyways). It’s actually even easier to find than the mobile version shown in this post. Just go to this link: https://www.target.com/circle/partners?flyout=1019 (direct link to Tripadvisor Plus offer) and click on Redeem. If you need help getting there, go to Target Circle, then click on Partners on the menu and you’ll see Tripadvisor as one of the partners. Super fast and easy signup!

From what I’ve read on various forums, tripadivsor has become a sham company like yelp (e.g., deleting reviews). It doesn’t appear that you have anything to lose by signing up for this membership, unless your reservations are “mysteriously” canceled.
