Quick Thoughts

We’ve previously written about this offer (See: Is the Freedom Unlimited 3x everywhere offer worth a 5/24 slot?) and while it’s not necessarily a bad offer, it doesn’t represent a huge increase over the standard offer. In short, $20K in purchases on this card would ordinarily earn 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points. With this offer, you would get an additional 30K points — 15K more than the standard offer, but it requires a lot of spend to max it out. I said before that I think this offer is most attractive for big spenders who wouldn’t be diverting spend that could go toward more valuable bonuses.

Still, 3% back for a year on up to $20K in purchases will also likely appeal to the crowd looking for a simple no-annual-fee solution. That said, you’ll obviously get the most value out of the offer if you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Business Preferred card since those cards enable you to use points at a value higher than 1 cent each through the Chase travel portal or transfer to partners for even better redemptions.

You can find more information about this card and links to both the current 15K offer and the alternate 3%-back offer on our Chase Freedom Unlimited page.
