This morning Nick posted a new deal for Citi Prestige cardholders: Citi Prestige gets 5x bonus for online / cable / streaming (up to 7500 points).

In response to Nick’s post, a reader wrote “Seems like it might be targeted, I didn’t get the email for my Prestige card.”  But it’s not targeted.  From experience, we know that Citi just doesn’t do a good job communicating with cardholders.  Nick replied:

Like I said in the post, Citi is terrible about communicating these things to cardholders and customer service. Their PR team sent it to us and confirmed it’s for all card holders.

But I’ll bet you $10 that you’ll never receive an email or if you do it won’t be until mid November and if you call eight times, you probably won’t find a single phone rep who’s heard about it. That’s the way these things go with Citi.

Yes, we’ve been here before.  This is why a regular segment on Frequent Miler on the Air is called “What Crazy Thing Did Citi Do This Week?

This time, I decided to have some fun with Citi.  I used their online chat to ask about the promo.  I thought for sure they would deny the 5X Prestige online deal, but they didn’t. Instead, I learned there’s no cap on the deal! Except for the cap, of course.  What follows is the exact conversation:

Hi, I read that there’s a promo for the Citi Prestige card to get 5X points for online purchases through the end of this year. Can you tell me if my Prestige card has that promo?
Can you allow me a moment while I review your request?
Sure
I’ll be the happiest person to inform that the card is eligible for the following offers provided below,

82749 2 pt online Cruise and Hotel
82750 4 pt Cable & Streaming
82751 4 pt online Excl Air,Rstrnt,Crus,Htl,Cbl

4 pt Groc,Gas,Drug(+Supcntr)+ Commuter Cap 2500 to 11/30/20

Note to readers: “4 pt online” is a separate targeted deal that I enrolled in.

Thanks! Do all of those end 11/30/20 or just the last one you listed?
All the other offers are good through 12/31/2020
Got it. Thanks! And what are the caps for the others?
There is no cap amount for the top 3 offers, Greg

Note to readers: Now we’re getting to some Citi craziness. I knew from Nick’s post that there was a 7500 point cap.

Really? Are you sure about 82751?
Undoubtedly, i’d like to assure you that there are no cap amount for the top 3 offers.

Wow!

Only a maximum yearly cap mentioned as 7500.00

Oh bummer. No cap other than the cap.

I HATE Citi chat. Never answer the question I ask and just repeat incorrect info over and over and tell me they answered my question already.

I was told there was no cap either. Simon.com here I come! 🙂

Thank you  so  much  for your  patience,  I truly appreciate it.

At Citi, we are committed to ensuring that the Citi Prestige card continues to drive value for our customers throughout these unprecedented times.
Although we hope for life to return to normal in the near future, we understand that traveling may not be possible for you right now.  As such, we have temporarily expanded the categories of purchases that qualify for the $250 Travel Credit benefit to help cardmembers who haven’t already received the full value of this benefit in 2020, even if they aren’t able to travel.

Between May 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, in addition to Travel purchases, purchases made with your Prestige card at Supermarkets and Restaurants (including takeout) will also count toward this expanded $250 Travel Credit benefit in 2020.

Moreover you will get 5x points on the online purchases made using this card.

Got an email from Citi today. Darn, there is a cap! 🙂

Now, in addition, you can earn a total of 5 points per $1 spent through December 31, 2020 – up to 7,500 points on:

All Other Online Purchases
Cable & Popular Streaming Services

Only a maximum yearly cap”. That’s worse than a cap on the offer. Prestige had a similar offer over the summer for 5x on online purchases. If this offer counts that spend against the same $1500 limit, those who maxed out the summer offer would have little to nothing left.
