The Marriott brands I was targeted for were Renaissance, Le Meridien, & TownePlace Suites. Past Chase Offers have included other Marriott brands like Residence Inn, so it’s worth checking yours to see if you’re targeted for other brands in addition to or instead of those.
A helpful thing with Chase Offers is that if you’re targeted for the same offer on more than one card, it’s easy to load it to each one. If you have an expensive stay at a participating brand, you can ask the front desk to split the payment across two or more cards to earn statement credits on each of them.

could I theoretically go to a Renaissance (also targeted) and buy a Marriott gift card? can’t find any dps on whether it triggers (have a stay upcoming at a Residence Inn, but not targeted for that brand)
Yep, if the Renaissance has gift cards and you can buy them at the front desk, that should work.
