Get 20% bonus when transferring Amex Membership Rewards to Air France/KLM Flying Blue

It’s the start of both a new month and a new quarter which means that there are quite a few new transfer bonuses today. One of the most interesting ones is a 20% bonus when transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to Air France/KLM Flying Blue.

The Deal

  • Get a 20% bonus when transferring Amex Membership Rewards points to Air France/KLM Flying Blue.

Key Terms

  • Expires October 31, 2025.

Quick Thoughts

A 20% boost to your points is on the lower end of transfer bonus percentages. However, with the somewhat relative ease of earning a good stash of Membership Rewards points, a 20% bonus from Amex might be preferable to a 30% bonus from, say, Chase (not that there is one at the moment).

This 20% bonus can help get you some decently priced awards. Standard business class awards between the US and Europe cost 60,000 miles per person, so this transfer bonus means you’d only have to transfer 50,000 Membership Rewards if you find availability.

Standard economy awards between the US and Europe are 25,000 miles, but each month Air France and KLM release Flying Blue Promo Rewards which is a list of, among others, US cities you can fly from/to for – usually – 25% off. There’s a new batch of those out today; we’ll be publishing a separate post about those, but there’s a good list this month which includes New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Portland, Phoenix, San Francisco, and more. That 25% discount reduces the 25,000 mile pricing to 18,750, so this 20% transfer bonus reduces that even further to only 15,000 Membership Rewards points being needed.

Is there a calendar view for Flying Blue points? I’m only seeing high prices for this summer.

PATRICK

I was excited about this point. Looking to travel to Rome or Naples next August. But the cost I see on Flying Blue are 60K one way in economy. I must be doing something wrong.

Ventjock

You’re not. Prices will vary. The post mentions the lowest reward prices available. The majority of flights are much higher so you need flexibility to take advantage of the best deals with AF/KLM.
