(EXPIRED) Get a 30% bonus on your first purchase through the Virgin Atlantic shopping portal

The Virgin Atlantic Shops Away shopping portal tends to fly under the radar, primarily because its earning rates don’t tend to be very good. There is a feature that has the potential to make it more compelling though: a 30% bonus on your first purchase through the portal.

• A 30% Virgin Points bonus will be awarded on your first purchase via Shops Away made either (i) online with third party retailers featured on the Shops Away Online Shopping site accessed by clicking the ‘SHOP NOW’ button, shown when you are logged into your account on the Shops Away partner page on virginatlantic.com, or (ii) instore with the retailers featured on the Instore shopping page.
• Bonus points will not be awarded on the purchase and/or the use of gift vouchers, which includes gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents, or on taxes and/or delivery charges.
• Bonus points can only be earned once per person.
• Bonus points will be credited to your account within 24 hours of the purchase being approved by the Shops Away merchant. Timings vary depending on the merchant – check out the merchant’s terms and conditions for details.
• No bonus will be awarded for any purchase which you have subsequently cancelled or that has been cancelled by the merchant (i.e. if you didn’t pay for or later returned the goods and/or services for which the points were awarded).

Quick Thoughts

When visiting the Shops Away portal, make sure that it’s set to the US Store rather than the UK Store. On desktop, you can switch that if necessary in the top-right corner of the site.

Although it doesn’t explicitly state it, I wouldn’t expect your earning rate to be 30x on top of whatever the standard earnings are. Instead, it’ll presumably be a 30% bonus on whatever your earnings are.

For example, let’s say you shop at a retailer where the portal is offering 5x points and you spend $200. You’d earn 1,000 Virgin points, so with the 30% bonus you’d earn an additional 300 bonus points for a total of 1,300 points.

Note that this promotion is only valid on your first purchase via the portal, so if you’ve used it before then you won’t be eligible. If your first purchase from the Shops Away portal isn’t due to be for a large amount, it might be better to use a different portal and save the 30% bonus for another time when you’ll be spending substantially more.
